What is the Mediterranean Diet? The exhibition answers this question by showing its multiple dimensions: the concept of cultural space and ancient Mediterranean lifestyle, an intangible cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation and its social and religious aspects, sacred foods and their symbologies, the products of the sea and land that support a diet of excellence recognized by the WHO – World Health Organization. The central focus is the territory and the multiple heritage of Tavira, the testimonies of the presence of civilizations of Antiquity, the cultural landscapes and products of the Ria Formosa, the productions of the barrocal and the mountains, the festivities and cultural practices that underlie the choice of Tavira as a representative community of Portugal in the application of the Mediterranean Diet to Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity presented in March 2012 at UNESCO headquarters. Films produced under the transnational application are projected and a kitchen space is recreated for information and experimentation activities, learning how to prepare and prepare food and culinary traditions.

SYNOPSIS The journalist Isabel Nery brings us in her new book, the first biography of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, in the year that marks the centenary of her birth. The author visited places and people that were part of her history, such as Porto, Greece, Lagos, Travessa das Mónicas in Graça, or the small island of Föhr, in the North Sea, where Jan Andresen, her great-grandfather was originally from , or interviewing more than 60 people, from fisherman José Muchacho, to friend Manuel Alegre, to essayist Eduardo Lourenço, passing by companions of letters and politics, family, translators and researchers. Only in this way was it possible to complete the missing biography about the first Portuguese woman to receive the Camões Prize and the only female writer with honors from the National Pantheon, to whom many would like to have been awarded the Nobel Prize. (Editora Esfera dos Livros).

BURNING MEMORIAL FOR PEDRO AND INÊS DE PORTUGAL ACTA – The Algarve Theater Company The tragedy of D. Pedro I and D. Inês de Castro is among the themes most addressed by arts and literature from around the world. Undoubtedly, the theme occupies a place of great relief and extraordinary curiosity, not only historical but also mythical, philosophical, artistic … ACTA addresses this theme again from a triple perspective of novelty: first, the narrative does not follow the historical chronology of events – our story begins now Pedro and Inês are in the tombs; second, the story will be told only using images and music – therefore, without using the spoken word; third, to direct this show we invited one of the most prominent European directors, specialist in this kind of theatrical performance, the Polish Leszek Mandzik. Scenic Creation: Leszek Mądzik // Coordination and Dramaturgy: Andrzej Kowalski // Musical Direction: Zé Eduardo // Interpreters: Bruno Martins, Carlos Pereira, Cátia Alhandra, Glória Fernandes, Luís de A. Miranda, Luís Manhita, Tânia da Silva, Zé Alegre // Plastic Execution: Tó Quintas // Light Operation: Octávio Oliveira // Sound Operation: Diogo Aleixo

Club Makumba is a free, spontaneous, experimental and tribalist exercise. Club Makumba’s first album came out in April 2020 and opened the window for a journey through the sounds of the Mediterranean and imagined Africa, to music without prejudice and without borders.

In 37 hours, 4 minutes and 12 seconds the Earth will collide with Jupiter. And there goes the microcosms and macrocosms, the atom, the molecule, the protons and the neutrons. On December 22, 1808, one of the most important concerts in the history of music took place in Vienna – the benefit concert (Akademie) where Beethoven enshrines his reputation as a composer and pianist. Despite the composer having some private sponsorship and enjoying the sale of works to publishers, the organization of a large concert in an important room was not only an important form of fundraising but also an opportunity to show his work. And what a sublime concert it was: imagine hearing the Fifth Symphony for the first time, which still leaves us completely ecstatic … and imagine hearing the Sixth Symphony, the Fourth Piano Concerto, the Choral Fantasy and a long improvisation with Beethoven himself at the piano, the aria ‘Ah Perfido’ and excerpts from his Mass … more than 4 hours of the best music ever composed! The Classical Southern Orchestra thus celebrates the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth with a two-part recreation of this important concert. Program Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral”, Op. 68 Piano Concerto nº 4, Op. 58 Artistic and Technical Sheet Direction: Rui Pinheiro Soloist: Vasco Dantas (piano) Southern Classical Orchestra Coproduction: Teatro das Figuras and Classical Southern Orchestra Note: the 2nd part […]

The Salt, the sun and the south and a different late afternoon in Salina Félix
To the south and in the sun in a late afternoon, the participants of the first action of the initiative “End of Afternoon in Salt” were able to collect their own salt, in an experience that aims to value the profession of salt and salt flower. In Salina Félix, in the middle of the Sapal de Castro Marim and VRSA Nature Reserve, the new salineiros learned about the whole process of artisanal saliniculture, collecting the salt manually, with the ancestral techniques that the fresh salineiros taught them. Home they took an enriching experience, 1 bag of the “best salt in the world” and also 2 packs of salt flower, which they themselves collected from the herseherand. The traditional sea salt of Castro Marim results from the conjugation of the salineiro’s work with the action of tides, sun and winds, and is not subject to any kind of subsequent treatment, presenting naturally white and bright. The salt flower was also observed, although atmospheric conditions did not allow collection. Also the salt flower does not undergo any kind of processing, dries in the sun and is then packed, maintaining the taste and humidity of the sea. This initiative is part of a strategy of valorization and promotion of salineiro and, consequently, of salt, which is one of the ex-libris of Castro Marim. Providing this contact of proximity and familiarization, it hopes to increase and boost the commercialization of local products in the tourist chain. About 2 months ago Castro Marim was also able to see legally protected the name “Sal e Flor de Sal de Castro Marim” (PDO – Protected Designation of Origin). The “End of Afternoon in Salt” is an action organized by the Municipality of Castro Marim and Odiana Association, integrated in the Blue Flag 2020 program and framed in the application “Heritage of Castro Marim: Valorization and Promotion of Local Producers and Endogenous Products”, composed by PO CRESC 2020, PADRE project, supported by Portugal and the European Union, co–financed at 70% by the FEDER.

Black, white, milk, with dried fruits, orange or pepper, in tablet, truffles, a slice of cake, a pizza, sushi, fondue with fruits or a crepe, there are several presentations, colours and flavours that these “artisans” bring to this event but always with the same point in common: the use of chocolate as the main ingredient. Creativity and imagination have no limits at this fair and, given the product’s versatility, in addition to gastronomy, […]
