What is the Mediterranean Diet? The exhibition answers this question by showing its multiple dimensions: the concept of cultural space and ancient Mediterranean lifestyle, an intangible cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation and its social and religious aspects, sacred foods and their symbologies, the products of the sea and land that support a diet of excellence recognized by the WHO – World Health Organization. The central focus is the territory and the multiple heritage of Tavira, the testimonies of the presence of civilizations of Antiquity, the cultural landscapes and products of the Ria Formosa, the productions of the barrocal and the mountains, the festivities and cultural practices that underlie the choice of Tavira as a representative community of Portugal in the application of the Mediterranean Diet to Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity presented in March 2012 at UNESCO headquarters. Films produced under the transnational application are projected and a kitchen space is recreated for information and experimentation activities, learning how to prepare and prepare food and culinary traditions.

Fad` Nu – intimate complicity, scenic and musical dialogue between singer and guitarist, the key characters of FADO. With obvious links to the tradition, Fad’Nu is a dogma-free option, opened to the new paths of the artistic globalization. Deep poetry, strong music and a soulful scene/stage, are the ingredients that present fado with a different outfit but also bring to it things that have never been there. In this sense Fad’Nu is an open door to the great poets and troubadours of the Portuguese language, widening and discovering new repertoires and establishing bridges between different genres and cultural roots. Fad’Nu has no creeds or boundaries and like music and poetry, it finds its essence in discovering an open path that reinvents itself at every new step.

The increasingly devastating effect of the weather in the mountains is obvious. 15 years have passed and the Serra is not what it was. Some houses still stand, with or without inhabitants, others have been claimed by time, and others don’t look the same. What yesterday was alive and living, today is abandoned. As a complement to tours, visits will be accompanied by photographer Luís da Cruz but also by technicians and researchers in the region. We present this large format photography exhibition, a revival in the context of a displaced mountain-range that allows both the recent past and present to be revisited. By placing them side-by-side, images of the same houses and serenities, separated by 15 years, we witness how time has become increasingly devastating and reality can be more mutable in some regions than others. The silence that lingers does not disguise the force of Nature

A double bass, a saxophone, a pair of record players and a piano. It will be in the light of this unusual formation that Beethoven’s legacy over the 250th anniversary of his birth in 2020 will be reinvented. But how to recreate Beethoven’s work while it is perfect? Carlos Bica’s “romantic” and especially melodic approach, which simultaneously drinks jazz, classical music and popular Portuguese tradition, combines with elegant and very free discourse, although not guided by the canons of the so-called free jazz , by Daniel Erdmann, with the many colors summoned by DJ Illvibe (Vincent von Schlippenbach), a gold digger looking for the craziest fragments of sounds, a manic DJ, and with João Paulo Esteves da Silva, owner of a fascinating musicality that crosses jazz language with a strong and unique Portuguese sensibility. Together they accepted the challenge of Cineteatro Louletano to rediscover Beethoven’s work, giving it a new existence.

The Tuna Universitária Afonsina de Loulé is a tuna where the elements belonging are exclusively male, thus respecting the old tradition of student troubadour. This project started in mid-November 1999 with some ideas formed by members of TUNAAF – Tuna Académica Dom Afonso III. These ideas were finally implemented in a meeting carried out by five students: Carlos Viegas, Emiliano Silva, Hugo Lopes, João Rodrigues and Júlio Guerreiro. This meeting took place on December 1, 1999, when TUALLE was founded, in one of the most emblematic cafés in the city of Loulé, where the well-known poet Aleixo used to recite his poems, Café Calcinha. From this meeting was born the Great Council, the founding entity of Tuna.

Direction by Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz This piece arises from the comparison of the research tools and choreographic composition of Sofia Dias and Vítor Roriz with the bodies and sensitivities of the artists of the Companhia Maior. A piece that begins with an appeal to experimentation, which is nothing more than an attempt to encounter what we have not mastered or puts us in a zone of conflict, risk and even bankruptcy. It seems to us that it is in this place, between what is dominated and what is unknown, that the body acquires the quality of the present – a transparency that allows to see its way of acting and thinking. The place of singing is empty is a game of alternations between the abstract and the figurative, the recognizable and the strange, the individual and the collective, the biographical and the fictional. A composition of sound scores, gestures that connect with words, brief narratives interrupted by movements and objects that give rise to voices.
Animale, dance at its finest. Debuted at the Venice Biennale and winner of the 2018 Danza & Danza Prize – emerging choreographer. Animale is the deliverance of nature, of the human, of all that is sublime and animalistic. It is an absolutely unmissable piece that lives through an interpretation with a rare, chilling, truly sweeping quality. Rarely is such a perfect balance found between strength, intensity and poetry. Duet for two dancers results from frenzied questions and answers, full of emotion, tension and humour. It’s all this and more. In this performance two men save themselves by striving to answer the many questions that assail performers of contemporary dance. This duet is “a repertoire of movements for all states of emotion and dance: unexpected, illustrious, impressive, spectacular, exhausting, erotic, beautiful.” Lilo Weber (NZZ newspaper)
This work explores the father-son relationship in a wide spectrum, like a shipyard and arena where spaces, times and states made of the tension between what is domesticable and what is indomitable come into play. Between animality and humanity. Bodies in metamorphosis and unfolding. Created in close relationship with the two singular artists who will be on stage – Beatriz Batarda and Romeu Runa -, the piece addresses issues of gender, affiliation, domesticity and the limits between reality and fiction. Continuing his exploration of the forms of representation, Marco Martins starts from these premises to create a show that crosses languages to address issues related to the perception and conditioning implicit in our notions and experiences of descent and ancestry.
“Faces do Acordeão” is a project created in the ambit of the Garvefole Accordion Association’s first anniversary. A show created around the accordion takes place on the stage, with the participation of several young laureates in national and international competitions. This musical moment promises a lot of irreverence, virtuosity and emotion, with a new approach to immortal themes, where the phonic brilliance of the accordion, combined with the beauty of the sounds of the classical guitar, violin, double bass, percussions and voices, in an orchestral and captivating environment, predominates. The prestigious teacher and accordionist Nelson Conceição signs the artistic direction for this concert. Originally from Bordeira, a place rich in great accordionists, the musician has had an inspired and dynamic journey from his childhood to the present, embracing a notorious diversity of genres that allows a symbiosis between ancestors and contemporaries through the exploration of relations between fado and tango, corridinho and classical music, or traditions / charolas and jazz manouche / gipsy.
For this very special concert, on the eve of the municipal holiday, an ensemble will be formed with teachers from the Conservatory who, under the coordination of Sérgio Leite, will join the prestigious singer and actress Sofia Escobar to create an alignment that revisits the universe of musicals and of soundtracks for cinema. Born in 1981, in Guimarães, and at the end of the course, at the Porto Conservatory, where he studied classical singing, he decided to risk everything and asked for a loan in order to study singing and acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, one of the most renowned schools of London arts. She later took on the role of alternate actress for the main character of “The Phantom of the Opera”, a play by Lloyd Webber, where she now assumes the main role. She won the “Best Actress in a Musical” award at the Whatsonstage Theatregoer’s Choice Awards and was nominated in the same category at the Laurence Olivier Awards for her performance on West Side Story. She was a judge at Got Talent Portugal between 2015 and 2016. Currently she divides her […]

In this, which is Fernando Ganhão’s first exhibition, we can get to know his art and the works produced through roots and trunks, from searches in the countryside, most of which are olive trees, but also carob, holm oak and cork oak. Born in Alte, where he currently lives, Fernando Ganhão went to carpenter at the age of 15. Job to which he dedicated himself until 2010, when the crisis and the lack of work made him look at nature as an alternative. “On a walk through the countryside, I looked at a beautiful root and imagined a table from there”. This piece was sold as soon as it was completed and he decided to dedicate himself to crafts. Currently, he participates in events such as the Serra de São Brás de Alportel, Fatacil, several fairs in Loulé and also in Cacela Velha.

Faro has shared scooters again
From Tuesday, 4 February, Faro will have 200 shared scooters through an electronic mobility platform that already provided shared cars and that now launches this more sustainable service, said the company responsible in Portugal. David Ferreira da Silva, responsible for the Bolt platform, told Lusa that, after the motor vehicles, the company will also provide scooters in Faro, the first Portuguese city where it will provide the service. The Algarve thus has these vehicles again, for now only in Faro, after last November – 10 months after the start of operations in the region – the electric scooters were removed from the streets of the Algarve capital and Portimão for reasons of option lack of profitability. “Right now, here in Portugal, we only have cars, although we have different types of category and for different types of users, but we also try to provide different solutions and now we are going to complement this mobility offer for users with scooters”, he said . David Ferreira da Silva said that the Algarve capital has about a dozen “collection and delivery points”, estimating that “after the summer” the service can be expanded “to other cities, either in the Algarve or in the […]
