The Castle Tower of Silves hosts, between April 12 and July 10, the photography exhibition “Time Lapses – In the Algarve, a Parar o Tempo”, by João António Fazenda. The exhibition portrays images of an Algarve, fleeting and changeable, real or dreamed but always beautiful, captured by the photographer, with his eyes, with his underlying imaginary, also marked by the passing of time. According to the author, an Algarve photographer, “to photograph is to make a cut in time; it is, in a way, to stop it, the instant the camera’s shutter is released. The resulting images are pieces of time that are retained in them.” The exhibition takes place as part of the commemorations of the International Day for Monuments and Sites. Enjoy the heritage and discover the magnificent images of João António Fazenda.
Exhibition “Roots”, by Margarida Tengarrinha Roots” is the title chosen by Margarida Tengarrinha for her new exhibition, composed of a set of Chinese ink drawings. For Margarida Tengarrinha, these are communicative, supportive ROOTS, defenders of the weakest and weakest, an important lesson of strong symbolism for all of us! The exhibition will be open until the 26th of June and was part of the commemorations of the 25th of April in Portimão.
This exhibition explores the affinities between gastronomy and art, having as protagonists the best Portuguese chefs and plastic artists, who focus on their culinary and artistic works a dialogue inspired by the canning industry. From “Eat & Art”, which is part of the CAN THE CAN project, a book and a set of 18 works of art were born, with the theme of the canning industry and 18 dishes, using a Portuguese canned food product. The initiative explores the creative component of two apparently distant activities, but united by common elements throughout history, evoking and celebrating this connection between the taste of preserves and art, meeting again, in this exhibition at the Portimão Museum, in the space where used an old cannery.
An exhibition on maritime themes, it evokes the figure of King D. Carlos and his strong relationship with the sea, giving special emphasis to the photographic work, carried out during trips along the Algarve coast, aboard the yacht “D. Amelia”, at the end of the 19th century. 19th and beginning of the 19th century. XX. From this oceanographic passion, and in addition to the images captured in the Algarve, it is possible to observe, among other pieces, one of his cameras and respective tripod, an on-board chair and the so-called “Botica”, a portable pharmacy used in his travels. sea, as well as one of the buoys belonging to the royal vessel. This exhibition is a pioneering initiative of the Portimão Museum, in close collaboration with the Casa de Bragança Foundation, the Maritime Museum and the Pharmacy Museum, which will reveal images from another time, of the people and landscapes of the coast and the Algarve sea. .
WITH FEET IN THE CLOUDS, by António Alonso Patent until July 2 (Tuesday to Saturday | 10:00-18:00) Location: Centro Cultural de Lagos – Exhibition halls 2 and 3 Free entry António Alonso was born in Angola in 1960. He lives and works in Barão de São João, in the municipality of Lagos. As a plastic artist, he works with recyclable materials in experimentation. The artist’s works that will be present in this exhibition assume a force consisting of explosive colors in shapes and rhythms aesthetically resolved by the experiences of spaces that influence his artistic decision. In the period of confinement, silence remained stable and pandemic isolation created so many doubts and so many certainties that inevitably influenced his creative process. In a frenetic and permanent production, Alonso reported the whole to his micro space in a short space challenge, to design an exhibition for the Centro Cultural de Lagos. He travels with an almost obsessive idea of finding objects and that is how his curricular universe results.
Exhibition “The Soma Das Partes” by Cruzes + Vargas = 3 Patent from May 14th to June 30th Opening: May 14 at 5:00 pm with performance by Amália Santos and DJ Set by Les Rockoeurs Hours: Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00 Location: LAC – Laboratory of Creative Activities Free entry | Synopsis | “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Cruzes + Vargas = 3 is an artistic project in which it is possible to identify the unfolding of this proposition. The collaboration between Ricardo Cruzes, artist, and Rui Vargas, architect, resulted in plastic forms structured by four hands, not easily detecting where the trace of one ends and the creative aspect of the other begins. However, they do not completely erase the marks of confrontation and the awareness of the difference in knowledge, experiences, methodologies and professional paths of each one, formulating an important metaphor of the meeting of cultures, as they prove the constructive fecundity of the tension between two (or more ) individual parts, which results in a third element, an “other”, with its own characteristics and innovative meanings, greater than the addition A + B. With the Algarve sea in the […]
WHAT IS THE ART OF PERFORMANCE? Conference | Small Auditorium of Teatro das Figuras May 24, Tuesday, 6:00 pm Duration: 120 minutes Age rating: over 6 years old Prices: free entry, subject to room capacity The Art of Performance continues to be a liquid and gaseous territory, therefore ambivalent and very prone to misuse in the classification of performative actions that, in the uncertainty of their labeling, are immediately stamped as performances. The plurality of understandings of the term and its practices will be the starting point of this round table. What are we talking about, then, when we talk about performance? This question is common and has not been definitively answered, since talking about what is or is not performance and its respective operations, hence its definition, has always been and will be problematic, given its idiosyncrasies and mutations. Even if it is not contested, it is not accepted without hesitation: “Performance is dead! Long live to performance!” The arrival point will be unpredictable. You have to be to know if we’ll get anywhere… Moderator: Nelson Guerreiro Guests: Teresa Silva (singer and performer) Yael Karavan (dancer, performer) Bruno Humberto (composer, musician and performer) Joana Levi (performer, author, director and […]

STORM FACTORY: NEW PROJECT BY RUI MAIA AND GIULIA GALLINA PRESENTS DEBUT RECORD ON MARCH 17
Storm Factory gives its name to the artistic project that was born from the meeting between the musician Rui Maia, who we know from X-Wife or Mirror People, with Giulia Gallina, an Italian composer living in Portugal and who we know from projects like The Loafing Heroes. After performing in 2021 with the single Corporeal, on March 17 they released their eponymous debut album, in which they built a distinct and unique sound environment, with contemplative, dreamy and cinematic features, born from the piano’s relationship with environmental electronics and experimental. The debut album came from the desire of the two musicians to develop a new aesthetic path born from the fusion of the neoclassical and minimalist pieces and compositions of Giulia Gallina, with the sound, environmental and electronic explorations of Rui Maia. The intention was to build something new, an aesthetic symbiosis that the two musicians had not yet explored. From this meeting, an album was born where there are no barriers of style. This was the key to the dialogue between different universes, which intertwine here in the search for a soundscape where a sensory piano, inspired by travel and mythologies, finds a wide range of environmental, industrial and […]
