The Order of Christ was created in 1319, by order of King D. Dinis, after the extinction, by Pope Clement V, of the Order of the Templars, one of the most famous Military Orders of Cavalry, founded in 1118, in the aftermath of the 1st Crusade. With a decisive role in the Reconquest period, in the military activity against the Moors and in the settlement of the territory, the Order of the Templars was also the owner of a vast patrimony that, by right, belonged to the Holy See, a fact that threatened the sovereignty of the king. With the pretext of defending the Algarve coast from attacks by pirates and Maghrebian pirates, D. Dinis manages to decree the creation of the new religious-military order. The 1st headquarters of the Order of Christ was then the Castro Marim Castle, with one of the most solid defensive systems in the entire Kingdom of the Algarve and located on the maritime border with Morocco and in the vicinity of the Islamic community of Granada. “Castro Marim, First Seat of the Order of Christ” is an exhibition approved under the Interreg Spain-Portugal Program 2014-2020, supported by the European Union, co-financed 75% by the […]
Using its own methods of torture, the Catholic Inquisition was responsible for thousands of deaths and barbaric acts against human integrity, which only served to cause excruciating pain and atrocious suffering to those who did not profess their faith. Throughout the exhibition you can find several replicas used to punish the condemned and that convey to us a little of the horrors committed in the dark period of the inquisition. * This exhibition was approved under the Interreg Spain-Portugal 2014-2020 program, supported by the European Union, 75% co-financed by the ERDF | project 0131_FOURTOURS_5_E.

The multifaceted, experimental and colorful way of treating the face, body and human figure, especially the female, are the central theme of this new exhibition curated by José Gameiro, who also shows us the creative spontaneity and capacity for expression , humor, the pleasure of experimenting and challenging that accompanies the whole work of Hein Semke. On the 9th of July, in the Municipal Museum of Tavira – Nucleo Islâmico, the exhibition “From Triana to Tavira. Sevillian ceramics from the 14th to 17th centuries”, which aims to make known the commercial relations between both cities.
Open until November 14 in the Temporary and Temporary Exhibitions Room and part of the “MAR” Project of the Algarve Museum Network (RMA), “Ouvir o Oceano” intends to draw attention and convey a strong message to the need to protect beauty and the purity of the oceans, preventing their degradation, in particular through discharges of polluting waste and plastic packaging, as well as through poaching. In a region strongly linked to maritime culture such as Portimão and Algarve, BJ Boulter’s warning makes perfect sense, as the materials in question represent a real threat to the extinction of many species of fish, crustaceans, mammals, turtles and reefs, for the pollution they cause. “Listening to the ocean is urgent!” Artist, designer and film producer, Barbara grew up in Tanzania and Uganda, having received her education in Kenya and London. The artist arrived in the Algarve in 1962, when her British parents acquired “Residencial Pinguim”, in Praia da Rocha. Through his paintings and sculptures, BJ Boulter recalls “the need not only to think, but also to act every day to save the ocean, preventing its contamination.” This exhibition project, following her sculpture “The Waste of a Dolphin” presented in 2019 on the riverside, […]

The opportunity to work with Júlio Amaro, at the S. Lucas gallery, in Portimão, allowed her to learn what she came to explore and which she applies in her work. Later, another opportunity led her to attend a course in Traditional Pottery Ceramics, at the Pottery School in Lagoa, with the master Fernando Rodrigues. Popular traits were assimilated. In Lisbon, at IADE, and with Professor António Vasconcelos, she has the opportunity to gather other information and make new explanations. This experience will have been overwhelming, responsible for the intense and true interest in the world of ceramics. As an IADE student, she was assigned to participate in a workshop at Ar.co. EXHIBITION “CAPSULA DO TIME”, by the Portuguese Center for Screen Printing Patent from August 7th to October 9th | 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (3rd to Saturday) Location: Lagos Cultural Center – Exhibition Room 2 and 3 Free entry Throughout history, Man has resorted to artistic creation as a universal communication vehicle, transforming art into a territory of absolute freedom – appealing to knowledge, intelligence, traditions, feelings, thus constituting true bonds of affection and sharing . Cápsula do Tempo/Editions of the Portuguese Serigraphy Center is an exhibition of original Graphic Work that confirms the receptivity/openness of CPS to different aesthetics and trends created by great masters of the 20th and 21st centuries and young emerging artists of different nationalities, but with a common purpose – the creation of a living document of our contemporaneity for the future. From New Figuration to Surrealism, passing through European Pop, urban art, rough art, bioart, image manipulation to artificial intelligence, these are distinct visual universes that result from the imagination of each artist who, in the exhibition presented, they testify to the Center’s aesthetic eclecticism, which has so far edited more than 3,000 works by around 600 artists of 27 nationalities, dedicated to its […]
Looking for a (non)sense (ir)representable From August 7, 2021 to September 26, 2021 Artistic creation as a search for order, not from disorder, but through reordering. An order, not of form, but of the informality of feeling. Drawing as an exploration, not to represent the predefined form, but as a redefinition of the way to explore visual thinking. A redefinition, not of the meaning, but of the way to reveal it. The graphic process developed, not on the basis of the chaos of an original principle, but as a structuring of a completely free imaginary. A freedom, not of detachment, but of seeking attachment. Thinking about and through form, not as a way to recognize it, but to know (oneself). A knowing oneself, not from being, but from the feeling of being. Expression of a sensibility, not to aesthetics, but to the discovery of an affective sensibility to the consubstantiation of the image (of oneself). An image, not pre-visible, but beyond the (before) visible. An idiosyncratic manifestation, not of the mental, but of the mind-body system. A system, not of juxtaposition, but of symbiosis. An idealization, not of an object(iv)o, but of the subjectivity of the phenomenon of discovering it […]

Exhibition “Bringing the essential into being(s)” by Jens Mohr Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 10AM to 01PM, and from 02PM to 06PM Patent: until September 30th Local: LAC – Laboratório Actividades Criativas Free entry Bringing the essential into being(s): “If someone asks me what the international artist Jens Mohr actually does with his art, I can only think of one answer: he makes “beings”. First of all, this has a tangible meaning: because what is created here is a host of literally peculiar, sometimes elusive, but always strangely familiar looking pictorial beings. The crucial point in Jens Mohr’s work on beings, however, lies deeper; it refers to the philosophical depth dimension of this “artistry of essence”: for the essence of a thing is the cardinal, the true, which of its own cannot be seen forthwith, but can express itself only in the embodied surface of things. The essence is at the same time that which as if from the depth of an invisible centre, combines all visible parts on the surface into a meaningful entirety.” – Jens Mohr 2020

Carola is a multi-disciplinary contemporary artist whose work is inspired by landscape and its histories. She makes drawings directly from her surroundings and then interweaves elements from myth, memory, poetry and the past. Her training as a sculptor influences her 2D work where she uses line as a scaffolding for composition before developing colour. Leonor Antunes: measure, take care, bond Works from the #Serralves Collection From August 8th to October 17th, 2021 at #MuseuMunicipaldeFaro Leonor Antunes (Lisbon, 1972) is one of the Portuguese artists with the greatest international recognition, having recently represented Portugal at the 58th Venice Biennale (2019), and exhibiting individually in some of the most important institutions in Europe, the USA and the Americas. South. His sculptures are based on a set of simple and delicate actions that reveal a deep concern with the material and sociocultural specificities of the places we inhabit. The artist’s work is closely related to modern architecture and design and the heritage of minimalist and post-minimalist art from the 1960s-70s. The #exhibition measuring, caring, enlaçar presents a set of works by the artist belonging to the Serralves Collection, which take as their starting point details of modernist houses that the artist visited and studied in detail. Leonor Antunes’ works adapt to the nature of each exhibition space, reconfiguring the way we experience it. The exhibition, curated by Joana Valsassina, is part of the Serralves Collection’s Itinerant Exhibitions Program, which aims to make the Foundation’s collection accessible to diverse audiences from all regions of the country.
The collective exhibition of painting One Stop Away, on display at Galeria Municipal TREM, in Faro, was extended until 2 October. «Since Galeria TREM owes its name to the proximity of the railway line via the name of the street where it is located, choosing One Stop Away as the title of this painting collective was an obvious decision», explains the organization. The exhibition is organized by Artadentro in collaboration with the Municipal Museum of Faro, bringing together works by Faro artists and members of the Olhão Painters group. One Stop Away, with paintings by Ana André, Jeffrey Gaylord Carter, Jill Stott, Meinke Flessemane Vasco Vidigal, «displays works that approach the landscape from different perspectives: from plein-air painting, in an update of the pre-impressionist tradition; the landscape as a theme/pretext for expressive exploration; the landscape as the dwelling place; the landscape as a matter of pictorial exploration; or the landscape altered by technology’. «Whatever perspective is adopted, it seems to be safe to say — at least in One Stop Away — that the landscape genre, although not absolutely, continues to provide the artist at a time: a vast field of artistic expression and a rare space for reflection and […]

Patent from September 18th to October 30th | 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (3rd to Saturday) Location: Lagos Cultural Center – Room 0 Free entry With some fixation on Art in Prehistory, the artist uses the most varied techniques without obeying the rules in the act of creation. She has her own style without worrying about the result, offering to each of her works a character of simplicity, purity and ingenuity, inspired by stories, myths and forms. In the exhibition “A Brincar com o Fogo”, Adelaide Filipe goes beyond the limits of risk by joining iron and clay, two materials in different stages – one dead material, the other living material. From iron, which she has been collecting over time, she creates unlikely associations with clay and ventures new forms that reveal her fascination for stories that come from remote times. Her pieces bring together an unusual genuineness and singularity and take on the organic aspect that the earth gives them, bringing together unique shapes found by chance. “We can understand the expression as a bolder action, attitude or thought, outside of commonly accepted standards, which involve certain risks, more or less conscious, and which, in succession, end up being […]

Registration for the open yoga class runs until September 20, and can be made online at https://www.cm-silves.pt/Preview.aspx?pageID=8000&ver=15441, at the reception of the Municipal Swimming Pool Complex in Silves or via the e-mail address email@example.com (the following information must be provided: […]

[Time to be defined] ROMEO & JULIET BALLET QUORUM September 25th and 26th, Saturday and Sunday Theater of Figures | Faro This new production was born from the desire to continue working on the great classics, continuing the work developed with “Lago dos Cisnes” and “Sagração da Primavera” by Daniel Cardoso, relating them to today’s life and society. This time, the choreographer takes on the challenge of presenting a new creation inspired by “Romeo and Juliet”, one of Shakespeare’s best-known works, and undoubtedly one of the most revisited classics in the history of dramatic literature. This unexplained place that rescues the most violent emotions, the most overwhelming changes, the most decisive actions. This approach seeks to challenge the centrality of Romeo and Juliet: multiplied in a contemporary vision, in an arena in which everyone without exception becomes Romeo and Juliet. In a universe where individually, all men and women intersect in some way in the symbolic path of these characters, and experience different ways of loving. The notion of randomness, or destiny, […]

Well, he goes to bed and soon falls asleep. It is during Mr Bloom’s sleep that his wife Molly unravels facets of his personality and her own. It is a torrential, fragmented soliloquy, with phrases linked uninterruptedly by associations of thoughts, dreams and erotic fantasies that plague this woman during her insomnia. How to fill in the half that was lost? How to live for both? Halldora tells us that “The world showed beauty, but it only knew how to produce horror”. “Dehumanization” is Ice, Earth and Fire; it is the “inner body of Iceland”. GRATO – Support Group for Drug Addicts, based in Portimão, since 1995, made on April 26, 25 years, and in a press release his direction thanks the sponsorships it has received because only in this way has it been possible to help, not only users, as well as a fringe of the increasingly vulnerable population. When GRATO started its activity it was mainly with the intention of refer drug addicts to treatment centers that recommended the Program Minesota or the “12 Steps” as it is best known. With the pandemic situation and the declaration of the State of Emergency that led to the closure of schools, GRATO returned to prepare in its facilities the meals that it then distributes, currently, for about 60 to 70 people per day. “People are not homeless because they want to,” says Joaquim Magalhães, president of GRATO, “there is many other reasons to be homeless.
Terras de Verdelago enterprise invests in the afforestation of native species.
On November 23rd, the Native Species Forest Day is celebrated and the date was marked in Castro Marim with an environmental education action in Verdelago’s entreprise, the first of many that will follow, seeking to respond to the challenge “one tree for each tourist bed”. This initiative also symbolized the beginning of the work of this project, which approved, but without progress, for 20 years. In an initiative organized by the promoters of Verdelago, in partnership with the Castro Marim School Group and the Castro Marim City Hall and articulated with the ICNF, about 130 students from the Altura School Center will plant pine trees, coark oak and holm oaks, with the aim of thickening the existing clearings. Each tree planted was baptized with the name of the student who cultivated it, seeking to promote and stimulate environmental values in the younger ones. Afforestation is the main objective of this initiative, but this time, with native trees, trees originating in the territory itself, since the plucked are invasive species, such as eucalyptus and acacia trees. In addition to being more adapted to the soil and climate of the region, resisting better weather, drought or disease, indigenous trees improve soil quality […]
“PROTECT YOURSELF, STAY HOME, WE’LL HELP”
The country is currently experiencing a period of considerable social, economic and health vulnerability. This situation has been given the best attention and follow-up by the Municipality of Lagoa, and a plan has been drawn up to support the population, which is particularly vulnerable given the economic situation. In this sense, the project arises to provide for situations where the local residents have economic conditions, but belong to the groups with the highest epidemic risk who are without informal support network to be able to go to the supermarket and/or pharmacy. The City Council has in operation a bank of volunteers of the City Council, Parish Councils, IPSS s, Sports clubs and Associations, to be identified and supported the elderly (over 65 years)the carriers of autoimmune diseases and chronic diseases – who are without an informal support network – so that they can stay at home, and support in the need to purchase food and/or pharmaceuticals is left to the volunteer teams.

To the south and in the sun in a late afternoon, the participants of the first action of the initiative “End of Afternoon in Salt” were able to collect their own salt, in an experience that aims to value the profession of salt and salt flower. In Salina Félix, in the middle of the Sapal de Castro Marim and VRSA Nature Reserve, the new salineiros learned about the whole process of artisanal saliniculture, collecting the salt manually, with the ancestral techniques that the fresh salineiros taught them. Home they took an enriching experience, 1 bag of the “best salt in the world” and also 2 packs of salt flower, which they themselves collected from the herseherand. The traditional sea salt of Castro Marim results from the conjugation of the salineiro’s work with the action of tides, sun and winds, and is not subject to any kind of subsequent treatment, presenting naturally white and bright. The salt flower was also observed, although atmospheric conditions did not allow collection. Also the salt flower does not undergo any kind of processing, dries in the sun and is then packed, maintaining the taste and humidity of the sea. This initiative is part of a strategy of valorization and promotion of salineiro and, consequently, of salt, which is one of the ex-libris of Castro Marim. Providing this contact of proximity and familiarization, it hopes to increase and boost the commercialization of local products in the tourist chain. About 2 months ago Castro Marim was also able to see legally protected the name “Sal e Flor de Sal de Castro Marim” (PDO – Protected Designation of Origin). The “End of Afternoon in Salt” is an action organized by the Municipality of Castro Marim and Odiana Association, integrated in the Blue Flag 2020 program and framed in the application “Heritage of Castro Marim: Valorization and Promotion of Local Producers and Endogenous Products”, composed by PO CRESC 2020, PADRE project, supported by Portugal and the European Union, co–financed at 70% by the FEDER.
