What is the Mediterranean Diet? The exhibition answers this question by showing its multiple dimensions: the concept of cultural space and ancient Mediterranean lifestyle, an intangible cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation and its social and religious aspects, sacred foods and their symbologies, the products of the sea and land that support a diet of excellence recognized by the WHO – World Health Organization. The central focus is the territory and the multiple heritage of Tavira, the testimonies of the presence of civilizations of Antiquity, the cultural landscapes and products of the Ria Formosa, the productions of the barrocal and the mountains, the festivities and cultural practices that underlie the choice of Tavira as a representative community of Portugal in the application of the Mediterranean Diet to Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity presented in March 2012 at UNESCO headquarters. Films produced under the transnational application are projected and a kitchen space is recreated for information and experimentation activities, learning how to prepare and prepare food and culinary traditions.

The remains of the Chalcolithic settlement and the other monuments are located on private properties, with access subject to the prior authorization of the respective owners.

First of all, this has a tangible meaning: because what is created here is a host of literally peculiar, sometimes elusive, but always strangely familiar looking pictorial beings. The crucial point in Jens Mohr’s work on beings, however, lies deeper; it refers to the philosophical depth dimension of this “artistry of essence”: for the essence of a thing is the cardinal, the true, which of its own cannot be seen forthwith, but can express itself only in the embodied surface of things. The essence is at the same time that which as if from the […]
In this, which is Fernando Ganhão’s first exhibition, we can get to know his art and the works produced through roots and trunks, from searches in the countryside, most of which are olive trees, but also carob, holm oak and cork oak. Born in Alte, where he currently lives, Fernando Ganhão went to carpenter at the age of 15. Job to which he dedicated himself until 2010, when the crisis and the lack of work made him look at nature as an alternative. “On a walk through the countryside, I looked at a beautiful root and imagined a table from there”. This piece was sold as soon as it was completed and he decided to dedicate himself to crafts. Currently, he participates in events such as the Serra de São Brás de Alportel, Fatacil, several fairs in Loulé and also in Cacela Velha.

The introduction seems to evoke the blues style so characteristic of the music of another of its predecessors, the American composer George Gershwin. Maybe it’s a reference to ‘Summertime’? It is, therefore, with the latter’s ‘Porgy and Bess’ that we follow in this concert. The composition of this opera (here arranged in Suite for wind quintet) was a deliberate attitude to create a genre of ‘American folk opera’ with a strong influence of black music. This journey through the sounds of the New World ends in South America with the intoxicating Tango by Astor Piazolla.

Perhaps ‘organic‘ music contains a sophisticated mixture of sampled and generated sounds which lets the track sound warmer and less artificial. Moreover, we love music with nontransparent sound design where many elements merge into one, resulting in a single harmonious sound.
Paulinho Lêmos – voice and guitar Bony Godoy – bass Marcelo Araújo – drums PAULINHO LEMOS Ever since he decided to move to Portugal, around the mid-eighties, Paulinho Lêmos has become one of the most representative Brazilian musicians of his country’s music in the old continent and especially in the Portuguese and Spanish scene, where he acts with assiduity that says a lot about his artistic attitudes. With ten albums on the market and a curriculum in which we find appearances in top-tier settings such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Expo’98, Guggenhein Museum Bilbao, Masters of Lusophony, etc. If one thing is clear, it is that the subtlety and quality of this guitarist and performer is a gift for the most demanding ears.
