What is the Mediterranean Diet? The exhibition answers this question by showing its multiple dimensions: the concept of cultural space and ancient Mediterranean lifestyle, an intangible cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation and its social and religious aspects, sacred foods and their symbologies, the products of the sea and land that support a diet of excellence recognized by the WHO – World Health Organization. The central focus is the territory and the multiple heritage of Tavira, the testimonies of the presence of civilizations of Antiquity, the cultural landscapes and products of the Ria Formosa, the productions of the barrocal and the mountains, the festivities and cultural practices that underlie the choice of Tavira as a representative community of Portugal in the application of the Mediterranean Diet to Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity presented in March 2012 at UNESCO headquarters. Films produced under the transnational application are projected and a kitchen space is recreated for information and experimentation activities, learning how to prepare and prepare food and culinary traditions.

The largest nativity scene in the country returns to Vila Real de Santo António, starting on November 28 (Saturday), and, of course, once again sets another record, surpassing the bar of 5600 figures. To bring this initiative to life, which comes of age in 2020, upon completing its 18th edition, it took more than 40 days and 2500 hours of work, although preparations began several months ago, even in the face of the uncertainty of the pandemic of the Covid-19. As usual, the list of materials used in its construction is extensive and includes more than 20 tons of sand, 4 tons of stone dust, 3000 kg of cork and hundreds of props. All these efforts allowed the Presépio Gigante to reach, once again, the goal of 230 square meters, occupying the entire exhibition area of the António Aleixo Cultural Center, with thousands of figures, many made from scratch by its authors and others that can reach the several hundred euros. In 2020, the structure presents itself with a new configuration, but it has evocative pieces from the region, namely Praça Marquês de Pombal, the old huts of Monte Gordo beach, the salt pans, the traditional Algarve norms, as well […]

“This newly evolving man is not a scared bully, posturing like some King Kong in charge of the universe. Nor is he a new age wimp, spineless, smiley, and starry-eyed. He has embraced both his inner masculine and feminine, and he no longer holds onto either of them. He doesn’t need to be right all the time, nor does he need to always be safe, cooperative, and sharing, like an androgynous Mr. Nice Guy. He simply lives from his deepest core, fearlessly living his gifts, feeling through the fleeting moment into the openness of existence, totally committed to magnifying love.” – David Deida – What does it mean to be a man in 2020? During this event we come together as brothers to find out. Maybe you are suppressing your own masculine core, your inner strength, your unique gift that gives you confidence, courage and purpose, that of which you know and feel it is who you are at your core, that which makes you highly attractive to the feminine and confident to play the sacred dance of polarity. Maybe you are afraid to express your emotions and vulnerability with anyone, because you have never been in an environment with […]

SOLAR TERRITORY Exhibition at the Municipal Museum of Faro Works from the Novo Banco Contemporary Photography Collection Curated by Maria Eduarda Duarte December 2020 – March 2021 – Opening on December 10, 2020, at 5:30 pm Solar Territory promotes a reading about space beyond its physical and geographical limits. A place is much more than the soil and the architecture that compose it, a place is not simply described by the visible elements that draw it, but by everything that is time and memory, roots and cultures, people, stories and lives. Inspired by the poetry of António Ramos Rosa, a set of works from the Novo Banco Contemporary Photography Collection was selected that reflects this connection to the place, a space that can be owned but also constantly searched. In this place, with a landscape of light and horizon, we are confronted for the different reasons that bring us here, a place of desire, but also a place that does not just mean arrival, as no place is. For some, this emotional fixation will be almost inexplicable, for others a search for more world, home of departure as well. And the change in perspective is reflected in all these steps, […]
The relationship of a show with the audience dominates the entire history of the theater and the entire history of art in general. How a piece of art relates to the viewer regardless of the form of art we are seeing. This new virus reminds us of a show by Lúcia Sigalho – “Solitary Beings”. As journalist Vanessa rato of the public wrote: “Enter a full stage – a board room; a clock tower; a wooden corridor or warehouse – and, with the Actor who is there, share the construction of the theatrical product. To discover these “Solitary Beings” is to (re) discover the fear and anguish caused by being together, with no known rules. Just take a map and start discovering these five soils by Lúcia Sigalho in Lisbon. ” “Cóvid” and “Pós-Covid” reinforces this thought about the relationship of a work with the public. I thought about approaching a situation of a man who emerges from the earth to speak words of a world in deconstruction, to gain a new direction. I think that Herberto Hélder’s words have this gift of making us think. We went through different emotional places – in the text “Os carnivorous animals” from […]

Terras de Verdelago enterprise invests in the afforestation of native species.
On November 23rd, the Native Species Forest Day is celebrated and the date was marked in Castro Marim with an environmental education action in Verdelago’s entreprise, the first of many that will follow, seeking to respond to the challenge “one tree for each tourist bed”. This initiative also symbolized the beginning of the work of this project, which approved, but without progress, for 20 years. In an initiative organized by the promoters of Verdelago, in partnership with the Castro Marim School Group and the Castro Marim City Hall and articulated with the ICNF, about 130 students from the Altura School Center will plant pine trees, coark oak and holm oaks, with the aim of thickening the existing clearings. Each tree planted was baptized with the name of the student who cultivated it, seeking to promote and stimulate environmental values in the younger ones. Afforestation is the main objective of this initiative, but this time, with native trees, trees originating in the territory itself, since the plucked are invasive species, such as eucalyptus and acacia trees. In addition to being more adapted to the soil and climate of the region, resisting better weather, drought or disease, indigenous trees improve soil quality […]

The Salt, the sun and the south and a different late afternoon in Salina Félix
To the south and in the sun in a late afternoon, the participants of the first action of the initiative “End of Afternoon in Salt” were able to collect their own salt, in an experience that aims to value the profession of salt and salt flower. In Salina Félix, in the middle of the Sapal de Castro Marim and VRSA Nature Reserve, the new salineiros learned about the whole process of artisanal saliniculture, collecting the salt manually, with the ancestral techniques that the fresh salineiros taught them. Home they took an enriching experience, 1 bag of the “best salt in the world” and also 2 packs of salt flower, which they themselves collected from the herseherand. The traditional sea salt of Castro Marim results from the conjugation of the salineiro’s work with the action of tides, sun and winds, and is not subject to any kind of subsequent treatment, presenting naturally white and bright. The salt flower was also observed, although atmospheric conditions did not allow collection. Also the salt flower does not undergo any kind of processing, dries in the sun and is then packed, maintaining the taste and humidity of the sea. This initiative is part of a strategy of valorization and promotion of salineiro and, consequently, of salt, which is one of the ex-libris of Castro Marim. Providing this contact of proximity and familiarization, it hopes to increase and boost the commercialization of local products in the tourist chain. About 2 months ago Castro Marim was also able to see legally protected the name “Sal e Flor de Sal de Castro Marim” (PDO – Protected Designation of Origin). The “End of Afternoon in Salt” is an action organized by the Municipality of Castro Marim and Odiana Association, integrated in the Blue Flag 2020 program and framed in the application “Heritage of Castro Marim: Valorization and Promotion of Local Producers and Endogenous Products”, composed by PO CRESC 2020, PADRE project, supported by Portugal and the European Union, co–financed at 70% by the FEDER.
