What is the Mediterranean Diet? The exhibition answers this question by showing its multiple dimensions: the concept of cultural space and ancient Mediterranean lifestyle, an intangible cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation and its social and religious aspects, sacred foods and their symbologies, the products of the sea and land that support a diet of excellence recognized by the WHO – World Health Organization. The central focus is the territory and the multiple heritage of Tavira, the testimonies of the presence of civilizations of Antiquity, the cultural landscapes and products of the Ria Formosa, the productions of the barrocal and the mountains, the festivities and cultural practices that underlie the choice of Tavira as a representative community of Portugal in the application of the Mediterranean Diet to Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity presented in March 2012 at UNESCO headquarters. Films produced under the transnational application are projected and a kitchen space is recreated for information and experimentation activities, learning how to prepare and prepare food and culinary traditions.

The largest nativity scene in the country returns to Vila Real de Santo António, starting on November 28 (Saturday), and, of course, once again sets another record, surpassing the bar of 5600 figures. To bring this initiative to life, which comes of age in 2020, upon completing its 18th edition, it took more than 40 days and 2500 hours of work, although preparations began several months ago, even in the face of the uncertainty of the pandemic of the Covid-19. As usual, the list of materials used in its construction is extensive and includes more than 20 tons of sand, 4 tons of stone dust, 3000 kg of cork and hundreds of props. All these efforts allowed the Presépio Gigante to reach, once again, the goal of 230 square meters, occupying the entire exhibition area of the António Aleixo Cultural Center, with thousands of figures, many made from scratch by its authors and others that can reach the several hundred euros. Vestiges of an ancient prehistoric settlement with megalithic funerary temples, built and used over several centuries, during the Chalcolithic period (3rd millennium B.C.), constituting a remarkable monumental ensemble. In the surroundings, natural cavities and crypts artificially excavated in the rock (hypogeus) were used, used at the same time as collective tombs. The monuments of the eastern grouping of the necropolis are museographed and can be visited. The monuments of the central tomb cluster are located on public grounds and are accessible to visitors. The remains of the Chalcolithic settlement and the other monuments are located on private properties, with access subject to the prior authorization of the respective owners.
Programmed as the main reference exhibition of the museum, occupying the industrial buildings of the previous factory building and spread over an area of about 1000 m2, “Portimão, Território e Identidade” represents a historical synthesis of the route designed by the local communities, since the pre -history to the present day, highlighting the most representative activities of economic, cultural and social life, divided into three routes.
The preserved industrial memory and the deep historical relationship with the Arade River and the Atlantic are the central themes of this route. Through it, the role of men and women in the most relevant economic activity in Portimão and the Algarve stands out, before the change to the new paradigm, the tourism industry. Departing from the factory space and in particular the refurbished “Casa de Descabeço”, the visitor is taken from the old auction room on the Portimão pier to the heart of the factories, following the process of manufacturing, packaging and promoting canned Portimão. In the former cistern at the Factory, where rainwater was collected and reused to feed the factory’s brine tanks and boilers, we now discover moving images of the underwater fauna and flora of the Arade River and the coastline of Portimão. In this same Cistern, in September 2013, the nucleus Ocean Revival – Portimão Underwater Park was installed, which made it possible for our visitors to follow on land what is going on underwater with the ships sunk about three miles from Praia de Alvor .
Exhibition “A look at the churches of Alcoutim” which aims to disseminate the script of the sacred art of the municipality, integrating it into the set of its cultural heritage and, thus, contributing to the knowledge of its unique history. vehicle of pedagogical extension to the local population, namely the school, this nucleus intends to make known the history of the county’s art, in the context of the history of regional, national and European art. This exhibition is guided by a historical / expository route, which begins in Manueline (16th century) and ends in Neoclassicism (19th century), consisting of panels with information related to each historical period and the graphic representations of the most important works . Along the way there are also showcases with some images, as well as liturgical implements.
The paintings in the show in the Recreativa from 11th November 2020-11th of January 2021 have the theme: BACK TO BLACK. Inspired by The Empty Boat by Chuang Tzu Tineke made a new serie of paintings. ———————— Tineke Storteboom (1962) graduated in 1992 from the Painting department of the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Exhibitions of her work have been held in The Netherlands and abroad, at Galerie Hof en Huyser, Suzanne Biederberg and the Raw Gallery in London. Drawings and paintings are in private collections in The Netherlands and in collections of the Rabobank and the Ministry of the Interior. Furthermore in private collections in among others Italy, United States of America, England, China. In order to make her work more accessible, Tineke exhibits at less-than-ordinary venues: paintings in plain nature on the island of Schokland, at the Batavia museum, the courtyard of the Spanish garrison in Maastricht, and in abandoned buildings. Currently she lives in Olhão, Portugal.
