They are, in fact, more than “100 Memories of Castro Marim”, a collection of letters, photographs, postcards, documents, books and many other memorabilia that were left to the new Digital Archive of the city hall, contributing to the construction of a new look about Castro’s cultural and social identity. The “100 Memories” project was born at the end of 2019, with a challenge launched to the population to give these personal and / or family memories to the Municipality. Inspired by the need to preserve, treat and disseminate Castro Marim’s historical documentation, Castro Marim’s autarchy built a chronologically contextualized narrative, which allows not only a rescue of the past, but also the construction of a new meaning about it. In the digital archive you can search and consult the documentation held by the Municipality of Castro Marim. This documentation is part of the collection with an extensive documentary volume, so the database will be periodically loaded and updated. Thus, the community is appealed to continue to contribute to this estate, sending their memories, by loan or donation, via email 100memorias@cm-castromarim.pt. In this dive into individual and fragmented memories, an audiovisual survey was also carried out on the intangible heritage of […]

The Order of Christ was created in 1319, by order of King D. Dinis, after the extinction, by Pope Clement V, of the Order of the Templars, one of the most famous Military Orders of Cavalry, founded in 1118, in the aftermath of the 1st Crusade. With a decisive role in the Reconquest period, in the military activity against the Moors and in the settlement of the territory, the Order of the Templars was also the owner of a vast patrimony that, by right, belonged to the Holy See, a fact that threatened the sovereignty of the king. With the pretext of defending the Algarve coast from attacks by pirates and Maghrebian pirates, D. Dinis manages to decree the creation of the new religious-military order. The 1st headquarters of the Order of Christ was then the Castro Marim Castle, with one of the most solid defensive systems in the entire Kingdom of the Algarve and located on the maritime border with Morocco and in the vicinity of the Islamic community of Granada. “Castro Marim, First Seat of the Order of Christ” is an exhibition approved under the Interreg Spain-Portugal Program 2014-2020, supported by the European Union, co-financed 75% by the […]

Using its own methods of torture, the Catholic Inquisition was responsible for thousands of deaths and barbaric acts against human integrity, which only served to cause excruciating pain and atrocious suffering to those who did not profess their faith. Throughout the exhibition you can find several replicas used to punish the condemned and that convey to us a little of the horrors committed in the dark period of the inquisition. * This exhibition was approved under the Interreg Spain-Portugal 2014-2020 program, supported by the European Union, 75% co-financed by the ERDF | project 0131_FOURTOURS_5_E.

April 19 to July 17 patent | 10 am – 6 pm (Monday to Friday) Location: Lagos Cultural Center – Room 2 and 3 Free entry “Art-Space-Architecture Interdisciplinary Dialogue – The greatest potential for human freedom lies in self-determined restrictions” It was at the Art Academy of Düsseldorf (Germany), in 1970, that Ernst Föll studied and had the pleasure of having as a teacher the artist Joseph Beuys, considered one of the most influential German artists of the second half of the 20th century. It was also there that he met the Fluxus Art Movement, a libertarian movement characterized by a mixture of different arts, originally in the visual arts and later also in music and literature. This movement was very active in the 60s and 70s. However, it was considered anti-art, since at that time the Fluxus movement went against the very object of art. Ernst Föll witnessed this artistic manifestation, as his teacher and another group of artists had a thought beyond borders. It is with this thought and learning that Ernst learned to see Art in a broader way, without barriers and with a lot of ambition. In his artistic career, poetry, philosophy and architecture play a […]

Location: Art Gallery of the Convent of Espírito Santo. The exhibition “Cada Lugar / Each Place”, by Fernando Gaspar can be visited from this day until May 23. The painter presents himself at the Art Gallery of the Convento Espírito Santo to show his work: “Tar and pollen emanate from places, the time of a cry. With the hands and the molded chest everything, everything crushes and reinforces; I scratch the importance of things on the ground, I write the size of the shadows in the thickness of the wind. From my head, the alphabet of birds and offspring descends to the Earth’s crust, perfuming the trees, fertilizing the valleys, the endless plains. Each place is a tomorrow. ”. As João Moniz refers to Fernando Gaspar’s art, “it is situated between abstract gesturalism and the contemplative of the cloud that appears in the texture of the canvas and distances itself in his journey, a coherence between the depth of the dialogue he establishes and the craft that takes the form of painting ”. The exhibition opens its doors from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
