There are many events that take place again after two years of absence due to the pandemic.
The month of August is once again synonymous with major events in the Algarve region, in what is the return to «normality» after years of restrictions forced by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the many events that take place again, highlighted by the «Guia Algarve» of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), is the biggest event in Castro Marim: the Medieval Days, which from the 24th to the 28th of August liven up the Algarve village. with the exhibition of arts and crafts, commercial exchanges, theatrical and musical shows and banquets. It will be a genuine and unforgettable journey into the magic of the Middle Ages.
Likewise, the Medieval Fair of Silves returns from the 10th to the 20th of August, with 11 days of historical recreation of the medieval period of the former capital of the Kingdom of the Algarve. A journey through time that invites you to experience «A day in history», with tournaments and shows at the castle, fixed and traveling entertainment, medieval taverns, a Berber camp with merchants of exotic products, among other attractions.
In Portimão, August is synonymous with the Sardine Festival. What, according to the organization, is the «biggest gastronomic event in the Algarve», returns to liven up the riverside area of Portimão from 3 to 7 August.
During the five days of the festival, roasted sardines dripping on bread are once again the queen, but there is no lack of other reasons for interest. From handicrafts to sweets, from street entertainment to music, national artists and bands deserve special mention: João Leote with Marisa Liz (3rd), David Fonseca (4th), Bárbara Tinoco (5th), Wet Bed Gang (6th) and David Carreira (7th).
A major return is also planned for Lagoa: FATACIL – Lagoa Handicraft, Tourism, Agriculture, Commerce and Industry Fair. The event brings together trade exhibitions, live handicrafts, agriculture, equestrian shows, regional cuisine, street entertainment and concerts, taking place from 19 to 28 August.
The organization expects «a pilgrimage of national and foreign visitors», presenting a musical poster «to match»: Expensive Soul (19th), Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo (20), João Pedro Pais (21st), Profjam (22nd), Quim Barreiros (23rd), Plutónio (24th), Bárbara Bandeira (25th), Resistência (26th), Fernando Daniel (27th) and Tony Carreira (28th).
Another highlight is the summer in Tavira, which returns «refreshed and renewed, maintaining the quality of the cultural proposals that make this program a reference in the region and in the country».
The Palácio da Galeria Park is one of the main stages of the event, where it will be possible to attend concerts by The Gift (August 3rd), by the Algarve composer, singer and producer Diogo Piçarra (11st) and by another Algarve, an unavoidable name in music. Portuguese: Dino D’Santiago (17th).
These and many other suggestions, including dance performances, theater, exhibitions, fairs, markets and sporting events, «brighten the Algarve cultural agenda in August», according to those responsible for the RTA.
Aimed at residents and tourists and published monthly, the «Guia Algarve» is a bilingual publication (Portuguese and English), with a circulation of 35 thousand copies and free distribution in hotels, travel agencies, tourist offices, Faro airport, rent -a-cars and golf courses in the region.
