ROCÍO ROMERO is a collage artist, born in Madrid and now based in Seville. A lover of paper and collage as an expression tool, Rocío’s work mixes collection, selection and juxtaposition processes in a natural way.
In this exhibition Rocío mixes black and white images with leaves from the Ginkgo Biloba tree, an ancient tree with a very strong symbolism of renewal, hope and life. The varied shapes of her leaves, so elegant and stylized, are perfect for imagining connections with the images she uses.
In this series of images of “figurine” women, 1950s haute couture models begin to develop a shell of sharp points representing their inherent strength and are “touched” by imaginary Ginkgo leaf masks and weapons. These elements give them new strength and dynamism; are super heroines.
