Álvaro Cortez, percussion and Isabel Romero, piano
April 17, Saturday, 9:30 pm, Grand Auditorium
The concert opens with “Frozen in Time”, by Avner Dorman. The work intends, on the one hand, to return to a time when the geographic morphology was different from the current one, evoking environments and sounds according to these ancient continents; on the other hand, mixing all the times in one, when referring to musical styles from various historical periods. From Cage, we went through several facets of the composer: one more nostalgic, represented by the “Round”; and even more percussive, with “Soliloquy”. A new element is added to the concert, through the composition of John Psathas for Marimba, Junk Pecussion and Electrónica. “One Study” is full of virtuosity, energy and glory. Finally, the show ends with the work of Gerassimez, composed in homage to Piazzolla, from there, seeking to contrast the tension and the lyricism.
