Baroque writers faced the challenge of using the word to highlight the situation of silence and seclusion to which the prevailing morality of the time condemned them. They raised their voices and through their words, they broke through the private sphere to reach the public sphere.
Four Spanish Baroque playwrights, María de Zayas, Ana Caro de Mallén, Ángela de Acevedo and Leonor de la Cueva, made themselves heard through their works. We pay tribute to Catalina Clara Ramírez de Guzmán, an extreme-duran 19th-century poet. XVII, staging some of her poems, such as self-portraits.
