Beautiful Me is dance, rhythm, it’s a celebration, it’s Africa. It was considered by national critics one of the ten best shows of 2008, the year when it was first performed in Portugal, in Faro, and Culturgest (Lisbon), as part of the last edition of the “A Sul” International Festival of Contemporary Dance programme, organised by DeVIR. Twelve years later we recovered this solo from South African choreographer Gregory Maqoma, an internationally-recognised name in African contemporary dance (Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres – French Government 2017). This contagious work was contributed to by three distinguished African choreographers, Akram Khan, Linyekula and Mantsoe. On stage, four African musicians perform live vibrant music that invades the audience and the dance takes place.
