Synopsis:
In this documentary, Cyril Leuthy wants to take us beyond the clichés of a myth, which at times has become caricatured, to reveal a man who is more sentimental than he seems, a man inhabited and sometimes surpassed by his art. Jean-Luc Godard made more than 140 films. His journey had only one meaning: the constant renewal of his art. “I am a positive man who starts from the negative”, he affirmed. His distinctive aura marked not only his films that became legendary, but also a public figure shrouded in mystery. Godard saw the act of creation as a necessary gesture of critique and deconstruction. Over the years, he reinvented himself, then destroyed everything and started over, always exploring the potential of the moving image. In this film, Godard talks about Godard, his experiences, obsessions and discoveries over decades of constant work. After all, he once wrote, “Everything can be filmed. Everything should be filmed.” ZERO IN BEHAVIOR
Director’s Note: What motivates me most about Godard is that he authorizes everything: he frees other filmmakers, frees them so that they can dare to take risks, to try and challenge habits. Making this film meant exploring an artist who, more than many others, has real faith in his craft. To navigate this ocean of ideas, films and archives, he had to follow a path: remaining humble and giving voice to the people who knew him. The film is more about the man than his cinema, but when it comes to Godard, cinema and life merge, although in the end, the film also talks about cinema… Cyril Leuthy
