The last chords of a poignant “Metamorphosen” by Richard Strauss die. The musicians, who are also the choir, exchange their positions as instrumentalists with those of choristers (meaning: to the Greek taste). The characters – Europa and Zeus – reflect this personalized condition: Zeus, sweet, engaging, hypocritical in contrast to a firm Europe, with determination and conviction, after all a prisoner (in itself) in search of liberation. Europa opposes Zeus, who one day kidnapped her and dictated her fate. And in the dialogue between the two remain the trampled petals that are all of us Europeans, painful heirs of a myth
who dares to resist.
