The Creation Workshop for Actors proposes a set of practical exercises that aim to develop technical artistic skills that underpin the actors’ performative work, through active listening, the relationship with time and space and dialogue with reality and others. others. During the workshop, the notions of availability, listening, focus, presence, time and rhythm, action and reaction, improvisation and composition will be covered in practice.
The Workshop has a laboratory nature and involves, in addition to individual and group exercises, the construction of small theater scenes, a corollary of the work to be carried out throughout the sessions. The materials to be explored will be of a diverse nature, from movement to text, enhancing the experiences and knowledge of each participant.
Day 9 – from 6pm to 9pm
Day 10 – from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm and from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Day 11 – from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm and from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Participants must wear comfortable clothing (tracksuit) and bring water to drink.
About Maria João Vicente:
She was born in Porto, in 1969. She attended the ESBAP Painting Course. She has completed the Actor Training Course at ESTC and a Degree in Theater and Education from the same school, where she is Assistant Professor of Interpretation in the Degree in Theater – Actors Branch. She has the title of Specialist in Theater, awarded by the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. She belonged to the Directorate of Teatro Universitário do Porto and to the cast, directed by António Capelo. She taught Dramaturgy at ACE. She was coordinator of DRAMAT – Center for Contemporary Drama at TNSJ. She directed the shows Queima de Judas in 2009, 2010 and 2011, by Comédias do Minho. She was the founder and coordinator of the Portuguese Committee of the European network for the translation and dissemination of contemporary dramatic texts – EURODRAM, from 2016 to 2019. She was a member of Teatro da Garagem from 1993 to 2019, where she worked as an actress, production director and playwright in more than 100 creations. At Teatro da Garagem, he was also co-responsible for the Educational Service and created and coordinated the projects Try Better, Fail Better, a cycle dedicated to emerging creators, Radiodrama, a radio program promoting contemporary Portuguese dramaturgy, and Além de Babel, a cycle dedicated to dramaturgy international contemporary. She was nominated for Best Theater Actress at the Golden Globes for her performance in Adélia Z, by Carlos J. Pessoa; She was awarded the Best Actress Award from the Theater Guide for her performance in On the Road, or the hour of the rainbow, by Carlos J. Pessoa, directed by Ana Palma. She collaborated, as an actress, with Teatro do Vão in 2021, in the show Vita & Virgina, and in 2022-23, in the show Tudo sobre a minha Mãe, both directed by Daniel Gorjão. In 2023, she joined the cast of A Nossa Vida [Episódios da Vida Selvagem], a production by Colectivo 84, with text and direction by Mickael de Oliveira. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Theater Studies at FLUL.
