BY GONÇALO AMORIM & PAULO FURTADO
Estro/Watts – Poetry of the Rock Age departs from rock poetry and its authors to explore the duality of the rock word and poetic practice. Like the Iliad or the Odyssey – stories that were told in the squares, of heroes and wars, of passions – rock used the poetic word to speak in the public sphere of life, death, war, love and heartbreak, of loneliness, concrete jungles, working class experience and oppression. This public dimension, which gathers people around it, which congregates, drastically contrasts with the introspection that the poetic act so often demands. In the age of rock, a new place was established in the public sphere for political and aesthetic reference, a place that was once occupied by the theater. What happens to this heritage? Where are the troubadours? Estro wants to restore the status of popular songbook to the style.
