“Sopro” exhibition by C.atarina Figueiredo and Rita Borralho Silva
Gallery Praça do Mar – Quarteira
March 11th to April 29th
Opening March 11th – 6pm
The association Alfaia – arte e Comunidade, with the support of the Municipality of Loulé, launched an open call aimed at young visual artists for an Artistic Residency that took place during the month of January this year, in this municipality. Catarina and Rita were the artists selected by the jury, made up of elements from the Municipality, the University of the Algarve and Alfaia.
C.atarina Figueiredo presented the project “Respiraestórias”, in which the artist invited a group of women residing in the municipality of Loulé to participate through an act of sharing around their experiences on the act of breathing. Breathing also brings with it a whole history laden with healing powers, self-control and self-knowledge. However, we pay little attention to this act in our daily lives and imagine that this is a place reserved only for Others, in distant rituals.
What if we brought to the space of the atelier, the gallery, the exhibition, a dressing disguised as experimentation?
Rita Borralho Silva proposed the Baile Fogo project, which started from our traditional Corridinho. It is an artistic research project that aims to analyze dance as a document of cultural and individual identity, revealing History through a moving body, and becoming political when used as a voice. Coexistence and Catharsis.
C.atarina and Rita provoked the encounter in their projects, among themselves and with the community. This encounter is given to us through the use of video and sound installations that transform the gallery space.
These two proposals culminate in Breath, an exhibition project that represents transtemporal, transdisciplinary movements and the freshness that the title suggests.
