SYNOPSIS
“Fake” revolves around the figure of Norma B.: a famous writer of detective novels. In her bibliography, there is a curious title: “How to Murder Your Husband, the story of a woman who, as her name implies, does not end without her husband being murdered. It is this title that brings her notoriety, for the circumstance that, a few years later, Norma was arrested, accused of the mysterious death of her own husband – a famous cooking teacher.
Even before being able to speak, Norma is publicly judged. Her work is irrefutable proof of her guilt. The texts written by her to give voice to her characters, to her creatures, are attributed to the creator. Her silent movements, scrutinized on all social media. A sudden close-up of the way she carries a garbage bag seems to say it all, according to her neighbors. For the world press, the author of such a suggestive title can only have the worst of intentions. The truth seems evident, doesn’t it?
“Fake” explores the tensions between truth and lies, information and misinformation, individual and collective beliefs and our propensity to believe the prejudices we carry. In “Fake”, the Theater dialogues with the Cinema, in an attempt to untangle the truth from the lie. The camera plays the role of a relentless polygraph, trying to distinguish a good actor from a bad liar, in an ultimate close-up.
