The cultural association Ideias do Levante and the Parish Council of Ferragudo organize, on November 26th, 2023, at 5:00 pm, the third edition of the Solidarity Christmas Choral Concert, at the Mother Church of Ferragudo, featured in Artenata Christmas fair. Grupo Coral Adágio (Portimão) will join Coral Ideias do Levante (Lagoa, Algarve) for a beautiful and generous performance.
Admission to this show will be made through a donation, which will revert to the following entities: CAI – Ferragudo Support Center for the Elderly and Conferência São Vicente de Paulo. Donations can be delivered at the beginning or at the end of the concert, in the proper places in the Church of Ferragudo. Donations can be in the form of cash or essential goods.
The concert is recommended for people over 6 years old and is limited to the existing capacity.

The Ideias do Levante Choir was founded in 1996 as part of the Ideias do Levante Association. Initially, it was conducted by Ricardo Carvalho, and in January 1998, under the artistic direction of José Carlos Bago d’Uva, the group adopted a renewed concept of “choral singing pedagogy.” It was directed by Francisco Brazão from 2003 until 2016 and by Vera Batista from 2016 until 2021. The group has been directed by Maria Saramago since September 2021. The choir has been accompanied by several pianists including Rute Simões, Lutz Kettnaker, Silvia Smemann, Alany Steiner and is currently accompanied by Cristiana Silva. The choir has performed in various parts of the Iberian Peninsula and organizes various events throughout the year, including the Lagoa Choral Week. It interprets an eclectic repertoire as a means to educate and attract audiences. The choir rehearses every Wednesday, from 20h00 to 22h00, in CEFLA, in Lagoa. The Grupo Coral Adágio was born in Portimão, in September 1989. Today, with around 30 members, its artistic director is maestro António Alves Alferes Pereira. Its main objective has always been to promote quality choral music, through a very varied repertoire that includes pieces from the Renaissance to the present, from sacred polyphony to spirituals, including popular music, Portuguese and from other countries. The following events stand out from Adagio’s history: In 1995/1996, participation in the Royal Entrances and Royal Festivities of D. João II, at the invitation of the Portuguese Discoveries Commission; At Easter 1997, the first interpretation of the mass De Beata Virgine Maria de Filipe de Magalhães, in Alvor; Trips to the Azores (1998), Italy (2000), Holland and Germany (2002), Spain (2002 and 2009); Performances in various Radio (RDP) and Television (RTP) programs; Concerts with the Orquestra do Algarve and the Orquestra do Norte, having participated with the latter in the opera Carmen, by Bizet, under the direction of maestro Ferreira Lobo (2008). In 2008, Grupo Coral Adágio recorded its first exclusive CD, (L)atitudeS. He was awarded the Municipal Merit Medal, Bronze grade (2002) and Silver grade (2008). Since 1994, the Grupo Coral Adagio has been organizing the Portimão Choir Meeting, in collaboration with the City Council.
Ideias do Levante is a cultural association, founded on April 27, 1995, with headquarters in Lagoa (Algarve, Portugal) and extension in Portimão (Espaço Portas do Sol), with activity around training, production and cultural promotion, through of regular and occasional projects, not only in the area of performing, visual and literary arts, but also in the area of health and well-being.
