The Mediterranean Diet Fair returns to Tavira, between the 7th and 10th of September.
This year we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the approval of the inscription of the seven countries that presented the Mediterranean Diet candidacy for Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Humanity, by UNESCO, in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan, on December 4, 2013 , and the 20th anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguard of the PCI, Paris 17 October 2003.
The Mediterranean Diet, whose representative community in Portugal is Tavira, is a living heritage of the entire country, in line with UNESCO Conventions and with increasing national and international relevance. It is investigated and studied by different sciences, being a legacy of the civilizations that originated our cultural identity, language and ways of living, producing and eating, essential to the valorization and strengthening of regional economies.
This year’s program reflects the broad partnership work that has been developed since the first edition, and which includes an institutional fair with the presence of other countries, national, regional and local institutions, various intangible cultural heritage classified by UNESCO, exhibitors of crafts and traditional products, botanical and seed displays, restaurants, gastronomic demonstrations, tastings and snacks, Portuguese and Mediterranean music with live concerts from Algeria, France, Spain, Morocco and Italy.
The vast program includes, among many other activities, workshops, traditional dances and other performing arts, exhibitions, visits to natural heritage, seminars, with emphasis on the one that will take place, on September 7th, on “Innovation in the Mediterranean Diet”, at the Tavira Agricultural Experimentation Center.
