Sagres Promontory [Sep 10 👉 Oct 4]
The extreme southwest of Europe. For a long time I called it the “Last Border Post”. A unique climate and landscape, a different and dichotomous Algarve, a point of passage, of visit, occasionally of fixation. Among those who stay here we find a little from all over the world. This project is a portrait of that special world and about a unique period in our lives. About the peace that some kids I met when I was 11 years old helped me find at the last border post where I lived. With everything that matters to me, family, and what we’ve learned to call home, space is so central to our well-being.
Today, and looking back over the three years I lived here, it is with gratitude that I keep the memories of the places, the emptiness of the confinements and the joy of returning to normality. village of
Bishop will always be all that. And those amazing kids and the stories they shared with me.
I will always be grateful.
Jorge F. Marques,
I was born in 1973. I didn’t get to photography early, but I took the right path to get there: mine. It was in 2009 that I started the journey. Photography was the medium I chose. What I do, what I show, is personal, it is the image of who I am, of experience, of interests, of what I look at and see every day. It’s a little bit of music that guides me. These are the paths I walk daily. Colors and light are the tools that I truly love and manipulate. I work frequently with different cultural entities and companies, especially in the areas of photography of shows and events. I highlight the work developed with Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie Franco-Portugaise and Fidelidade France, in Paris, Toyota Salvador, in Porto, not forgetting the many collaborations with the Centro de Ciência Viva in Lagos. It was with these entities that I had the privilege of participating and photographing some important projects, such as the Urban Art campaign, which features a work by Joana Vasconcelos, the performance ‘Mar Português’, for the Harmattan Teather in New York or the Guias de Geologia e Urban Paleontology of Faro, Tavira and Lagos. It is in this city that I now live and where, together with my traveling partner, we opened Pequeno Rebento, a jewelery and art gallery/studio. Also in Lagos I started my collaboration with Questão Repetida, with which I have already participated in multi-collaborative projects between different artistic disciplines, such as music, video, illustration and photography, which resulted in the shows Elementos, Lugar, and exhibitions Polaridade and Trechos, always with the Barlavento Algarvio as scenery and inspiration. With the cultural association Largo Alto, since 2016 I have registered the concert season at the Menino Deus Church.
