VII ALGARVE INTERNATIONAL PIANO FESTIVAL
Winner of the 1st Prize in the Beethoven Competition at the Royal College of Music, in London, and in the International Piano Competition of Nice Côte d’Azur, Marta Menezes also has other prizes in international competitions in Portugal, Spain and France. In 2014, she received the Silver Medal of Valor and Distinction for her career as a pianist, awarded by the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. She has performed in several countries in Europe, in the United States, in Cape Verde and in China, highlighting, in recent seasons, concerts at the Les Arts auditorium (Valencia), at the National Center for the Performing Arts (Beijing), in St. . Martin-in-the-Fields (London), the Chopin Society of Connecticut (United States) and the Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon).
As a soloist, he performed with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orchester Régional de Cannes, Orquesta de València, Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil, Orquestra Clássica do Centro, Orquestra Sinfónica de Thomar, Orquestra Sem Fronteiras, Orquestra Sinfónica da Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, among others. Marta plays an active role in promoting Portuguese music. She commissioned and premiered several works by contemporary composers and developed several projects dedicated to this repertoire. In 2015 she edited her first CD with works by Beethoven and Lopes-Graça, with the support of the GDA Foundation, which received the Global Music Award in the USA: Silver Medal-Outstanding Achievement in the categories of classical piano and emerging artist.
Marta studied at the Superior School of Music in Lisbon with Miguel Henriques, having also worked with Jorge Moyano. She finished her Masters with top marks. In London, she took a second MA at the Royal College of Music with Dmitri Alexeev, which she finished with distinction. Marta holds a PhD from the University of Indiana, in the United States, where she worked with Arnaldo Cohen, with the theme of her final work being “Works for Piano and Orchestra by Portuguese Composers.
