BY MARION SPARBER IN COLLABORATION WITH AORCA
An artistic invitation to redefine women in our modern world and a response to the men’s play “Big boys don’t cry… but when they do?”, a piece choreographed by Marion Sparber in 2020 with support from the Cabinet for German Culture of the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol. The idea is to create the counterpart of the existing male piece and present a deep exploration of the genre through dance.
Sparber will choreograph a multidisciplinary dance-theater performance, influenced by the artistic disciplines of dance, circus and live music, that questions the traditional image of femininity in a sarcastic and theatrical way. What does it mean to be a woman these days? What impact does education, emancipation, equality and gender struggle have on femininity? What is unfemale and why are we still at a disadvantage in many areas? Along with seven women of different nationalities and age groups, Sparber will investigate behavior, expectations and traditions. Inspired by stereotyped movement patterns, women’s social roles will be examined and presented with the help of different dynamics.
