The opera “Bastien und Bastienne” by W. A. Mozart will take the stage at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa, on January 21 and 22, 2022, under the Artistic and Musical Direction of Elsa Mathei. In a format accessible to all ages over 6 years old, it is aimed at elementary and secondary school students, as well as families and young people, having been designed to please children and adults alike. The piece is characterized by great simplicity and melodic cohesion.
This is one of the first works composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, based on the piece by Jean Jacques Rousseau, Le Devin Du Village, composed when the little author was only 12 years old, but already revealing an extraordinary mastery in the field of composition. Bastien und Bastienne is a Singspiel (an opera in which arias, duets and trios alternate with spoken dialogue) in one act and with a translation of the Favart libretto, by F. W. Weiskern – J. H. Müller and J. A. Schachtner.
The plot tells the love story between a young peasant couple, Bastienne and Bastien. Bastienne, the young protagonist, finds herself heartbroken as she has just lost her great love, Bastien, to a noble lady. Desperate, she enlists the help of a mage, Colas, who gives her a set of magic spells and advice to make Bastien jealous, eventually achieving a reconciliation between the two.
