Claude Debussy and Eurico Carrapatoso. Here is a two-way dialogue between composers from very different countries, times and societies. However, if there is one characteristic that is shared by both, it is without a doubt the constant search for perfection. A form of Ostinato Rigore, as Eugénio de Andrade called it.
This stubborn rigor is revealed in the attention to the smallest detail, in an exercise in subtlety that translates into the purification of all the superfluous.
In this concert two enveloping and emblematic compositions for string quartet will be heard. By Debussy, it is actually one of his masterpieces, the only one he wrote for this formation and originating from his first period, before the composer abandoned the post-romantic language for good.
As for Carrapatoso, it will be the occasion to listen to one of the most unavoidable Portuguese composers of all time, here working on traditional Portuguese material as a tribute to Lopes-Graça, the main promoter of national traditions as a matter raw material for composing instrumental music.
