This exhibition is a tribute to the Ecological and Zoophilic Association of Aljezur (AEZA), which celebrates its twentieth anniversary in May this year.
The paintings we present represent some of the many dogs and cats abandoned and welcomed by AEZA in recent years. Some of them died. Others, the vast majority fortunately, were adopted.
These paintings wanted to focus on the look of these dogs and cats. The look of an animal, when it stares at me, disturbs me. It is a look that seeks someone, something. It is a sign of unease. My eyes meet the animal’s look, but how can I see a look? I know nothing about what’s going on in your head.
