On the 27th of May, at 6:30 pm, at the Centro Cultural Convento de São José, the public presentation of the installation project for Espaço Gamboa, ESPAÇO GAMBOA | MAKING OF
The Espaço Gamboa, a museum facility dedicated to the life and work of the artist from Lagos Manuel Gamboa (1925-2020), will be installed in the former Pious Carmelite retreat which, on this date, celebrates 29 years since its conversion into one of the main cultural centers in the city and from the municipality of Lagoa. The project will endow the building with an expository and interactive valence that will make it possible to reformulate the cultural dynamics in force over three decades and implement educational activities around Gamboa’s creations, in particular, and the visual arts in general.
The moment could not be more opportune, considering that today marks International Museum Day, an initiative promoted by the International Council of Museums and, this year, dedicated to the “Power of Museums”. And the power that Espaço Gamboa aims to display is precisely that of the ephemeris’ motto: to create, as a cultural space, positive impacts in a world that is constantly and rapidly changing.
A year ago, at the presentation session of the Project’s guidelines, the Mayor of Lagoa, Luís Encarnação, highlighted the importance of the moment for the municipality of Lagoa. The mayor referred that the creation of Espaço Gamboa is the realization of a dream, not only of the late Manuel Gamboa and those who were close to him, but of all the people of Lagos, who see the coveted safeguarding and appreciation of the Master’s work achieved.
The ceremony, free of charge, consists of the presentation of the final architectural and museography projects and will be in charge of the Municipality of Lagoa and the company FCo. fullservice company in multimedia.
