The class photo was taken in the lobby of the Colégio Salesiano de Lisboa in 1995, the year the album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins came out, the one that would become Miguel N.’s favorite band. Th year, João C. and Filipa N. were in love, Pedro CC dreamed of becoming a football player and Rui A. went on television to imitate Michael Jackson. Almost everyone had a nickname: Testa Rossa, Cavalona, Splinter, Beaver, Chinese, Dumbo. I, the seventh from the left, in the back row, was Olivia Palito. In 2019 – 24 years later – I sought out each of my classmates to talk about that time and the direction that life took after the photo was taken. Rachel Castro
