Ricardo Leitão Pedro is one of the few musicians today dedicated to the historical practice of canto al liuto, accompanying himself to different plucked string instruments. Born in Porto in 1990, he took the lute at the age of eighteen and studied voice and lute in Porto (ESMAE), Lyon (CNSMD) and Basel (Schola Cantorum Basilensis). A member of Concerto di Margherita and I Discordanti with whom he maintains a busy schedule all over Europe, he is regularly invited to collaborate with different ensembles and orchestras both as a singer and a lutenist. Ricardo Leitão Pedro’s first solo album “Fantasticaria” dedicated to the music of Bellerofonte Castaldi for voice and theorbo was self-released in 2020.
The Castra Leuca trio’s formation (guitar, violin and percussion) is unique in Portugal and, since 2018, has rapidly established itself within the Portuguese worldmusic landscape. They have performed in Portugal and Spain and taken part in festivals such as the Avante Festival, the Sons da Terra Festival, Jueves Turístico, the Zeca Afonso Festival and the Água Mole em Pedra Dura Festival, among others. In 2019 the Castra Leuca Trio released their first album – Primeiro Andamento – which has featured on radio stations in Portugal, Spain, Australia, USA, United Kingdom, Czech Republic and Colombia.
