In May 2019, the “Devil on the Cross” announced their end. Ten years after that moment, Sérgio Pires (vocals and braguesa), Daniel Mestre (guitars), João Pinheiro (drums) and João Gil (bass) now meet again, in “SAL”, a project created during the confinement and that maintains the motto of the previous band: rock fused with popular and traditional Portuguese music, a fusion well present in the debut single, “Passo Forte”. The group was joined by Vicente Santos, on the keyboards.
They came from jazz, but it was at the crossroads between this background, indie pop and psychedelic rock that João Firmino, Margarida Campelo, Joana Espadinha, António Quintino and João Pinheiro gave birth to Cassete Pirata, 2016. An ethereal voice, a bass, a drums, a guitar, keyboards and synthesizers – all that is enough to create the half nostalgic, half dreamy atmosphere where Cassete Pirata take us. Last October they released “A Semente”, their latest single.
