Now that we are obsessed with social distance, it is worth remembering that the idea of distance or estrangement was greatly developed in theater by Bertolt Brecht. But what is less known is that before Brecht, other ideas of estrangement were thought up by other authors, in literature and psychoanalysis, around the time when there was also another pandemic similar to the one we are experiencing: the so-called Spanish flu. Will it be by chance? In any case, the purpose of this workshop is not to talk about pandemics, nor about Bertolt Brecht’s epic theater, but rather to discuss these other ideas of distance and estrangement (and familiarity) and to think about them again in the scene, through a component of experimentation.
Ideas will be presented, discussed and tried out on a floor that can become a stage.
