Canto a Whitman is the second video-performance created by Mákina de Cena following the invitation to integrate Cineteatro Louletano’s online programming, within the scope of its 90th anniversary.
Carolina Santos and Marco Martins (DRAMA & BASS) joins trumpeter Leon Baldesberger, thickening the sound of Martins’ original compositions, which, as complex as they are soft, allow Walt Whitman’s poetry to “flow perpetually”.
In this dedicated and inspired creation of “Canto de Mim Myself”, the poet’s intimacy, thought and words are shared, transposing the colors with which he painted his world to sounds that populate and stimulate our imagination.
Mákina de Cena, based in Loulé since 2018, assumes itself as an artistic structure of a multi and transdisciplinary nature, with special focus on the performing arts, namely in the areas of Music and Theater. In addition to the regular programming of Casa da Mákina, with events such as Clube de Leitura Teatral, MdC Jazz Club, Cinemákina, and META project (inclusive movement), Mákina de Cena’s two main areas of action are creation and training, always promoting artistic transversality and the establishment of partnerships with other cultural entities.
The Drama & Bass project arises from the meeting of Carolina Santos and Marco Martins at the School of Arts at the University of Évora, in 2012. The paths of the actress and the musician came together and this duo emerged, with the purpose of bringing together Music and Word, and from there to discover new approaches to voice and bass as performative instruments at the service of a text or poem.
