The stylistic multiplicity in the Jazz drums – focus on the main styles most used in the approach of the jazz drums such as Swing, Bossa Nova,
Funk and other Latin rhythms. Video examples are presented to complement the exhibition.
Jorge Moniz (Barreiro, 1973)
He studied at the Academy of Music Amateurs and at the National Conservatory where he completed the 7th degree of the Piano course. At the same time he studied drums at the Jazz School of Hot Clube de Portugal. He has a degree in Composition from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and a Master’s Degree in Ethnomusicology from Universidade Nova de Lisboa under the guidance of Salwa Castelo-Branco.
He completed his PhD in Arts at the Faculty of Arts of Lisbon in 2017 with approval for praise and distinction. He teaches at the Regional Conservatory of Setúbal, Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa and the Luiz Villas-Boas Jazz School of the Hot Clube de Portugal.
Throughout his career as a musician he has integrated numerous projects, mostly in the Jazz area. He has two albums in his own name “Deambulações” and “Inquieta Luz” from 2010 and 2014, respectively. More recently he has worked in the field of composition for theater, cinema and dance.
