BICHO-DO-MATO CLUBE DE TEATRO READING is a new project launched by the Municipal Library of Lagos in 2020 with the aim of encouraging the reading and writing of dramatic texts. Designed to “debut” in the year that celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bernardo Santareno, and as a way of evoking the playwright aspect of Júlio Dantas, patron of the Municipal Library, it consists of holding meetings, structured and guided by 1 or 2 authors / creators, where shared and commented readings of books or plays will be held, literary sessions with writers, writing or dramatization workshops, and sketches of scenic spaces. The meetings will be held quarterly, on Sundays, from 10 am to 6 pm, at the Municipal Library of Lagos, and occasionally at the Reading Poles, in Leiturália spaces or in informal areas of the municipality. The works, authors or themes of the sessions will be announced in advance and will be available for loan or consultation at the Library.
The first session of BICHO-DO-MATO CLUBE DE LEATURA DE TEATRO is dedicated to the theater of the poet and writer Manuel António Pina, Camões Prize 2011, and will be guided by two longtime friends, João Luiz, director and artistic director of Companhia Pé de Vento, Theater for Children and Youth, and Maria João Reynaud, essayist, literary critic and playwright.
“The session aims to make participants aware of the various aspects of Manuel António Pina’s theatrical work, since its genesis. We will tell of the writer’s “walk” of over thirty years with the Companhia de Teatro Pé de Vento, a partnership made up of a writer, a playwright and a director, within the scope of a singular theatrical practice , where literary writing partners with scenic writing. And his pieces will also be read, his texts will be debated, the power of the poetic word evocative, which is also his. ” (Joao Luiz)
