Film Cycle dedicated to Women Filmmakers.
As in language, the neuter collective is by default masculine. There can be 300 people in a square, of which 299 are women and 1 man and, in Portuguese, we would say “they are in the square”. If we look at the posters of the summer festivals, at the books that belong to the national reading plan and, in fact, at all dimensions of social and cultural life, there are always many more men than women and, many, many times, there are only men. And the truth is, it’s not even intentional and we don’t even realize it. When we think about making a film cycle, by default male directors come to mind and the outdoor cinema programming in República 14 has been mostly male.
What we intend with this cycle is basically to compensate for gaps. It is not about thinking about “feminine”, it is about making a film program with criteria and quality giving, at the same time, equality and visibility to women directors who exist and deserve to have the same right to occupy the artistic and cultural space. .
