The film recreates the story of the first and bloodiest years of activity of Baader-Meinhof, the Marxist organization founded under the official name of Rote Armee Fraktion (Red Army Fraction) by Andreas Baader, Ulrike Meinhof, Gudrun Ensslin and Horst Mahler.
Centered on the figure of Ulrike Meinhof, the film covers from its origins, in the student movements and youth communes of the 1960s, to the period known as the German Autumn, in the second half of 1977, when a series of kidnappings and murders of characters of German politics and business committed by the group, left West Germany on the verge of political and social collapse, in its greatest post-war crisis.
