April 30th is the International Jazz Day, a date that our Orchestra marks, year after year, if we were not one of the first entities in the country to have this recognition by UNESCO and its Commission. We never confine ourselves to just the day, but we make April a much broader celebration of this Music. This year we invited one of the greatest voices that our country has seen born in recent years, who tore not only for the National Jazz scene, but also for other musical areas. Vânia Fernandes is a versatile, very musical, powerful voice that leaves no one indifferent. It was not so difficult to come up with the idea that serves as the basis for the Program that leads us to celebrate the International Jazz Day: ate the same time, we are going to celebrate the great voices of the 20th century, such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughn, with themes that were immortalized with the great Orchestras of Count Basie, Benny Carter, Duke Ellington or Thad Jones. A journey through the XX century, with standards, and original orchestrations that go through almost every decade, and that we are going to debut absolutely in almost its entirety. Vânia Fernandes, the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve under the direction of Hugo Alves are waiting for you to celebrate these more than 100 years of Jazz, the Jazz now universally recognized by UNESCO.
