Making its debut in the Algarve, Luísa Sobral presents her new show “DanSando” at the Auditorium Carlos do Carmo, in Lagoa, on the 4th of February, at 7 pm. It will be the second concert of the “DanSando” tour, the first in the Algarve, which will start on the 28th of January in Sesimbra. Synopsis: Luísa Sobral opens the doors to the solar pop of ‘DanSando’, her sixth album of originals. Produced by Latin Grammy winner Tó Brandileone, the album was recorded between Lisbon and São Paulo. Lightly exploring the lands of pop, and never losing the jazz tones, ‘DanSando’ is filled with 11 original themes, guided by the need to sing about love. Luísa’s new record adventure is an intimate and personal work, but also socially conscious and involved, bringing together songs that are assumed to be more luminous and in which love is the raw material. An album that the author admits “that I’ve wanted to do for a long time: an ode to life”. Considered one of the most important singers and songwriters of the new generation of Portuguese musicians, Luísa Sobral debuted in 2011 with ‘The Cherry on My Cake’, followed by ‘There’s A Flower In […]

The Lisbon band that brings together Gaspar Varela on Portuguese guitar, Sebastião Varela on electric guitar and Rafael Matos on drums released their eponymous debut EP at the end of that year, having received the highest praise from the national and international public. The work included themes such as “Primeira Rodada”, “Azul Celeste” (in honor of the fado singer Celeste Rodrigues, sister of Amália and great-grandmother of Gaspar and Sebastião), “Alfama, Texas” and “When Neptuno gave to the Coast”, released in a special edition that includes the reading of an unpublished poem by Sebastião Varela. It was between Lisbon and the United States of America that the group’s first ideas began to emerge. Gaspar Varela was on tour with Madonna, while his two companions sent him the first «mesh» on that transatlantic trip. With a sound influenced by the rhythms of Portuguese, Brazilian and African popular music, the debut work of these young […]

Cantaloupe Café, in Mercados de Olhão, is pleased to announce that it will present on the 5th of February, Sunday at 6.30 pm, a show with: Ze Eduardo Trio Formed over a year ago, this trio quickly rose to not only local but also national notoriety, having already performed at the Hot Club in Portugal as well as at the Loulé Jazz Festival, among others, namely several performances at Cantaloupe. Various circumstances (which the pandemic is no stranger to) allowed for the unlikely coming together of these three musicians who were more than qualified for the difficult task of making a jazz trio sound. Pianist Simon Seidl and drummer Marcelo Araújo accepted the challenge proposed by veteran bassist Zé Eduardo and the result is in plain sight. In 2023, among other musical adventures, it will be the resident trio at Cantaloupe Jazz Café where it will present, at the beginning of each month, an original and diversified program. Reservations by tel.: 289 704 397 During live music shows, for the 1st consumption, an increase of €8.00 (eight euros) is applied for each consumer.

EXTENDED HORIZONS Classic Lethes Cycle – OCS – Southern Classical Orchestra THU. 9 FEB / 7 pm Tickets: €7.50 Duration: 45 to 60′ // M/6 Samuel Coleridge-Taylor lived a short life of just 37 years. However, he was quite prolific and achieved a prominent place in the first decades of the 20th century. His upward path is also a milestone in a society of Victorian values, recognizing a black composer as one of the most distinguished peers of his time. Alan Shulman was born in the USA into a family that emigrated from the Russian Empire, growing up surrounded by music, where his character as a child prodigy stands out. As a cellist, he plays in the best American orchestras and forms the mythical Stuyvesant Quartet. As an arranger, he collaborates with Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole or Ella Fitzgerald. Already as a full-fledged composer, and despite a brilliant academic career and regular contact with the most important composers of the last century, his work remains to be discovered and explored. This concert proposes to expand our horizons as listeners, rediscovering two composers whose work needs greater dissemination, with both works being heard as probable national premieres. It is also […]

Voice is arguably the human faculty that has the greatest impact on our experience. It has an enormous power of contamination and unique capabilities that allow transformation, communication and enchantment. In this proposal dedicated to the technique of lyrical singing, various forces of Voz em Canto come together. Voz em Canto intends to highlight and publicize the unique beauty that lyrical singing encourages. It is proposed a journey that will cover 4 types of voices: Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Tenor and Bass, accompanied by different instrumental formations. It will be a tribute to dialogues with a program full of duets. After so much time of human and emotional isolation, caused by covid-19, it is increasingly necessary to promote rapprochement and communication. The four spaces selected for the execution of the various musical programs are based, above all, on the need to decentralize culture in the territory of Lagoa. But, no less important, it started with the combination of important and iconic heritage spaces, which accumulate tradition with current experiences, with the combination of a timeless and highly demanding vocal repertoire. The spaces covered on this journey by Voz em Canto, begins with the religious building – Church of Ferragudo, passing through the […]

In 2019 I went around the country on an auditorium tour that I called Casca de Noz. Me, without a script, alone on stage, supported by my instruments and my music. The adventure went through the main movie theaters in the country and ended with a double session at the Porto Coliseum. At the time, I was still only halfway through what is my edited discography. I feel like it justifies a new season. From time to time my songs feel like walking around the way they came into the world. And I have a lot that I haven’t played live yet. Come!

Each year, for one week, singing sweeps through Lagoa, and voices from all places unite in a harmonious feast of melodies and emotions. The Choir Week of Lagoa is already a reference in the panorama of Algarvian choir festivals. It began as the tiny cry of a strong and determined child, then grew with school songs learnt and sung, and now has become a searcher of new sounds and experiences in polyphonic choir singing. Each year it yearns to go farther, to innovate, to dare to fly even higher. Each year, the Choir Week of Lagoa is bigger and more mature. And with it, the […]

February 4th, 9:00 pm TEMPO Grand Auditorium – Teatro Municipal de Portimão 75 min | M/6 €10.00 | Tickets on sale at https://tempo.bol.pt and at the box office 2021 saw the birth of one of the most interesting projects in the current music scene: the Transatlantic Express.

Pre-registration by calling 282 767 816, the Library’s Facebook page or email Biblioteca@cm-lagos.pt What is a reading concert? One of the many chronicles by Rubem Alves about reading ends this way: “There are music concerts. Why not reading concerts? I imagine an unthinkable situation: a teenager is getting ready to go out with his girlfriend, and his mother asks: “Where are you going?”. And he replies: “I’m going to a reading concert. Today, at the theatre, the story “A Terceira Mar do Rio”, by Guimarães Rosa, will be read. Why don’t you and Dad come?” And so, embarrassed father and mother turn off the television and prepare to leave…” In everything similar to a music concert, in the reading concert only the nature of the score changes. The rest remains: the presentation of a program and a soloist as a channel through which the music of the texts passes. More than an actor, the sound reader is a director who shares with the public a reading according to their sensitivity, as […]

Those who die more of love or who sacrifice more for love in opera, literature and life are women. They atone for the evils of the world. Amorous death has produced the most remarkable repertoire in the world of opera from its birth to the present day, as well as a remarkable chamber repertoire. In opera, you die singing, another perfect catharsis – the song of death. This show traces the path of a woman who continually dies of love, to the point of ultimate exhaustion. Love makes her live again, to die again. An eternal return. An eternal sacrifice, where all musicians participate. Who wins in the end? Love or death? On stage, the performer and soprano Catarina Molder is accompanied by the Quarteto Ensemble MPMP, in a musical-scenic show of contemporary opera with sounds ranging from the post-Romanticism of Ernest […]

Duration: 130 minutes (with intermission) Age rating: >12 “Jungle Book reimagined” by Akram Khan is a new work based on the beloved story by Rudyard Kipling. With a new sense of urgency, Akram reinterpreted the well-known story through a current and pertinent perspective, that of today’s children, heirs of the future world and its stories. Embedded in the original story is the profound threat humanity poses to nature. The choreographer and his team have reinvented Mowgli’s journey through the eyes of a refugee, trapped in a world ravaged by the impact of climate change. We are told the story of a child who will help us hear again, not just our own voices but the voices of the natural world that we in the modern world try to silence. “Jungle Book reimagined” is addressed to all generations as a step to remember, relearn and reimagine a new world together.
