The Lagos Music Academy is a non-profit Public Utility Association, founded on May 27, 1986 by D. Maria Boulain Fogaça. Since 1989, the Cultural Interest Manifesto has been recognized consecutively with its Activity Plans interspersed with the recognition of the Superior Cultural Interest. Its history includes the award of the Medal of Cultural Merit (1993), awarded by the State Secretariat of Culture, the Medal of Municipal Merit (2002) silver degree, by the Lagos City Council, the Infante de Sagres Trophy for the area of Culture (2009), Medal of Municipal Merit, silver degree (from 2012) by the Municipality of Portimão, Intercultural School Seal recognized by the Directorate-General for Education and the High Commissioner for Migration, IP, Quality Seal awarded and recognized by EFFE – Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe is considered REEI School – Network of Schools for Intercultural Education – joint initiative of the High Commissioner for Migration, IP (ACM, IP), from the Ministry of Education, through the Directorate-General for Education (DGE) and the Aga Khan Portugal Foundation (AFK), a member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires / Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen (AEC), from AEEP- Association of Private and Cooperative Education Establishments and INATEL-National Institute for the Use of Free Time
The Lagos Music Academy is one of the most dynamic and productive Portuguese cultural associations in the area of arts and shows. Since 1990, it has maintained the Conservatory of Portimão – Joly Braga Santos, an establishment of specialized artistic teaching of music with pedagogical autonomy, and owned from 2003 to 2018 the Conservatory of Music of Lagoa / Lagoa Section of AML / and from 2014 to 2018 the Conservatory of Music.
