Built in the 14th century with the aim of defending this border region, Alcoutim Castle has a large wall of defensive towers.
A visit to the castle allows you to enjoy a magnificent view over the Guadiana River, the village of Alcoutim and the Spanish village of Sanlucar.
Inside the castle, an opportunity to visit the Archeological Museum of Alcoutim, where you can appreciate a varied set of finds that testify to all the periods of the county’s history, as well as the exhibition Timeless Games. It should be noted that this collection includes the largest set and variety of board games from Islamic times from a single archaeological site and the only examples of Mancala III, which we know in Portugal.
