The Municipal Museum of Tavira is a territory museum, polynucleated and multithematic, structured in several units: Palácio da Galeria, Islamic Museum Center, Cachopo Museum Center, Bairro Almóada Archaeological Center, São Sebastião Chapel, Santa Ana Chapel and Center Interpretative of Water Supply to Tavira.
The Tavira Municipal Museum’s main missions are to investigate, inventory, preserve, expose and disseminate the patrimonial, material and immaterial wealth, resulting from the historical presence of various civilizations and the geocultural and productive diversity of the territory.
This museum system promotes the coexistence of research programs on the heritage of previous times, with the opening to new contemporary artistic expressions, allowing permanent dialogues between ancient and contemporary heritage, namely on the artistic and scientific production of past and current generations.
