The Algarve Regional Museum was inaugurated on December 15, 1962 at the headquarters of the Junta de Província do Algarve (currently the District Assembly of Faro), with the painter Carlos Porfírio (1895-1970) as its founder and responsible for its organization.

Through an interesting photographic sampling we can revisit the 16 municipalities of the Algarve in the first half of the 20th century. Also worth mentioning is the collection of typical objects from the region (fishing, agricultural and artisanal work, domestic industries and costumes), paintings and the reconstitution of spaces from the traditional Algarve house and the tavern or store.
