Description
This unique and remarkable concert from Johann Sebastian Bach's dedicated to St. John Passion is without a doubt one of the composer's greatest works. It was in 1724, in the city of Leipzig, that this work was heard for the first time.
However, after a year, the version was revised by Bach himself, resulting in the interpretation that will be heard in the Church of S.Sebastião.
The Passion According to Saint John, BWV 245, narrates the last moments of suffering of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion.
This monumental work, of incomparable emotional and spiritual depth, will be performed by four solo voices, choristers and the Orquestra Barroca D'Aquém Mar, the only baroque orchestra in the south of Portugal.
It has the musical direction of the renowned violinist Sigiswald Kuijken, one of the greatest interpreters of baroque music, whose passionate interpretations provide the audience with an unforgettable experience, and also the artistic direction of the organist Elsa Mathei.
This event is co-produced by Questão Repetida and the Municipality of Lagos, with the support of the Directorate-General for the Arts, the Network of Portuguese Theatres and Cinemas, the Union of Parishes of Bensafrim and Barão de São João, São Gonçalo de Lagos, Luz and Odiáxere.
