From Lagos to Japan - The great adventure of the Festival of Discoveries is back 🌊⚓️🇵🇹🇯🇵

Between April 30th and May 4th, Lagos once again immerses itself in the epic spirit of the Discoveries with the 12th edition of this biannual Lagos event, with the usual participation of local forces. An invitation to travel through time and space, with shows, historical recreations, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, guided tours, permanent entertainment and other surprises.

It all starts with the Historical Parade, parading along the Avenida dos Descobrimentos. Over the course of five days, the 16th Century Fair occupies Praça do Infante and Jardim da Constituição with merchants, artisans, tavern owners and continuous entertainment. At different points around the venue, themed poles bring episodes from the past to life.

Japan will have a strong presence in this edition: Espaço Japão invites you to explore the country's gastronomy, crafts and traditional arts; There will also be Kyudo (Japanese archery) demonstrations, origami, calligraphy, furoshiki, mizuhiki, kirigami workshops and even typical sushi pieces and sweets such as daifuku mochi.

At night, the big shows take over the event: “Circle of Fire”; the powerful Taiko drums; “Samurai Station”, “Tanegashima”, with the vessel Santa Bernarda; and “First Love” about the impossible love story between Princess Wakasa and Fernão Mendes Pinto.

The program also includes guided tours that reveal the historical and geological background of Lagos. In an “outdoors” approach, the Lagos Cinema will have free screenings of films related to Asia and the Cultural Center will host, on May 3, the conference “The Encounter of Portugal with Japan in the 16th-17th Centuries”. The Lagos Museum equipment will have free entry throughout the five days of the event.
