Description
Artistic creation project in the field of interdisciplinary intersections, between the performative areas of Theatre, Dance and Music, based on the Sermon of Saint Anthony (to the Fishes) by Father António Vieira, by the cultural association Co.N125 - Companhia Nacional 125.
Synopsis
In a dystopian present, the polar ice caps have melted, the oceans have warmed, and water has expanded over the Earth's landforms. Only the highest mountains of the Himalayas and the Andes emerge as scattered islands in a vast sea. An empire of water covers the planet, reminiscent of the story of an ancient punishment. Fish, mollusks, crustaceans and other marine beings are now the most abundant life forms. They have mutated, adapted and evolved. They have developed the ability to speak – in a language that could be called human, full of quotations, echoes of what they once heard and saw and which, miracle or curse, has not been forgotten. They pass alive through entire submerged cities. Astonished by the attitudes and behaviors of the beings that inhabit them, they try to reconstruct the praise and reprimands they heard on a June day, as if they held within their bodies and voices the hope of a "new world."
It is from this encounter between past and present, between ruin and reinvention, between animal and human, between "us" and "them," between baroque opulence and the abysses of science fiction, that IF FISH COULD TALK is born: a spectacle on the threshold between Theatre, Dance and Music, which provokes "confusion" - perhaps "correction" - through the unsuspecting voice of the fish.
