With the increasingly pressing need to rethink borders, comes the responsibility of continuing to give space to different voices and geographies. Mákina de Cena, assuming its share of this responsibility as a structure of artistic creation, believes above all in dialogue with the community and is guided by the reaction to this global current, thus preparing a journey so that they accompany us in the human transformations that will come.
Travel, Borders and Change are the keywords for this exciting four-month period.
… The Mákina Workshops and A Mákina Vai à Escola resume, with renewed energy, reinforcing and increasing the pedagogical footprint of the programme.
… The Theater Reading Club continues, resuming the 27/09 with its ‘godfather’, one of the founders of the Coimbra Reading Club and the very first guest of our Club, Ricardo Correia. In October and November, other challenges follow.
… The MdC Jazz Club continues to be written at a good pace and with several new features, maintaining its monthly character and increasingly contributing to the dissemination and implementation of Jazz in the Algarve. Come and enjoy a glass of wine with us!
… The new production, SAMOTRACIAS, is getting ready to premiere at the end of October, at Cineteatro Louletano and, from there, spread its wings and fly. A show that wanders through the lives of three migrant women (runaways?, expelled?, fed up?…) that represents the first
internationalization of Mákina de Cena, with teams from Portugal, Chile, Colombia and France.
… Later this quarter, we will officially release the result of the writing challenge />> Slash Forward, in book format. We will share the date soon, so stay tuned to our social media.
… Not forgetting the CONTRAPESO #2 Festival, which brings us a box full of love straight from the city of lights, with the signature From Paris with Love. In this 2nd edition, Mákina de Cena brings to Loulé some of the artists who inspired and motivated
its foundation. If you want to get to know us better, and what moves us, as well as have access to a diversified and high quality artistic program, join us in this Counterweight, from December 1st to 4th.
In September
After a summer filled with outdoor concerts (MdC Morning Jazz), September is the month in which our activities return to their indoor format, with the MdC Jazz Club and the Clube de Leitura Teatral marking the start of this four-month period at Casa of the Machine.
On the 25th of September (Sunday) at 6 pm, the MdC Jazz Club welcomes Papa Dragon, an original project conceived during the confinement by the musician José Vieira, with sounds from neo-soul to rock and jazz, to enjoy (by first time since the beginning of the pandemic) in the company of a nice glass of wine.
Shortly afterwards, on the 27th of September (Tuesday) at 9 pm, the new season of the Teatral Reading Club begins, with the presence of Ricardo Correia, one of the mentors of the Coimbra Theater Reading Club and the first guest of our club (April 2019), which will guide the reading of “Brief Pieces on the Rise and Fall of an Egoist Called Europe”, a dramaturgical project that aims to investigate the correlation between reality and fiction in contemporary political dramaturgy from the writing of plays using as the theme the European Crisis.
It is also this month that we resume the rehearsals of SAMOTRACIAS, an international creation that debuts in October, and that we open new registrations for the Jazz and Improvised Music Workshops of Loulé, directed by Marco Martins.
