The inauguration of the temporary exhibition “Manuel Guerreiro, O Homem do Jazz” is scheduled for 5 pm on May 20, which will be on display at the Portimão Museum until September 3 next. The basis of this exhibition is Manuel Guerreiro’s (1932-2005) love for music and passion for jazz, his relevant and creative musical career and the recognition of an intense artistic activity, among his peers and throughout the world. In addition to highlighting Manuel Guerreiro’s strong desire to share and encourage a taste for music in the jazz clubs he created (“O Caldeirão”/Ferragudo and “Manoel’s Jazz Club”/Monte Carvoeiro), the exhibition is a well-deserved tribute and a special tribute to his inspiring and dynamic life. The exhibition will recreate “various periods of the musician’s life, with objects, photographs, posters, memoirs, talking about this man who was one of the greatest Portuguese jazz saxophonists, with a great predisposition, since he was a child, for music. On show will be, for example, a replica of the stage, as well as tables and chairs from “Manoel’s Jazz Club”, in Monte Carvoeiro, the second and last of the jazz clubs founded by the musician.

Exhibition “And After Goodbye”, by Marques Valentim An exhibition of “Photographs with History” in black and white related to the last 50 years after April 25, 1974, the moments of our revolution from the Colonial War, through the April revolution and ending in the present day. These are unique photographs, recorded by Marques Valentim throughout his career as a photojournalist. All images have two captions, one relating the meaning of the moment it represents and the other smaller one describing the objective content of each photograph.

The Convent of S. José in Lagoa, in the municipality of Lagoa, and the artist João Ribeiro, invite you to the photographic exhibition “XXV João Ribeiro”. In the year in which the photographer and artist João Ribeiro celebrates the 25th anniversary of his career, Santa da Casa da Misericórdia de Tavira took the liberty of inviting him to a photographic exhibition that will be a retrospective of his career. João Ribeiro, in the course of his life, went through a military career at the service of the Portuguese air force, deepened what was a hobby and became a professional photographer, president of the association of photographers of the Algarve, trainer and teacher in the field of photography, leading many photography enthusiasts deepening their taste for photography and some of their students even becoming professional photographers. The month of June, which marks the beginning of summer, will once again be characterized in Portimão by moments of great animation, guided by the parades of the Popular Marches and Arraiais, carried out by the local associative movement, celebrating St. João and S. Pedro with dancers and lots of joy. This year, tradition returns in a big way with six Popular Marches parades, five on Friday nights and the other on a Sunday, providing pretexts for lots of fun throughout this 22nd edition of the event, which promises to infect residents and tourists in the three parishes of the county. The parades will count on the participation of cultural and recreation groups, such as Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense, Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense and CIRM – Clube de Instrução e Recreio Mexilhoeirense, which will join the Marcha da Vila de Alvor, organized by Parish Council using local volunteer work. MBORAÍ is a concert that transits through soundscapes originating in Brazil, where musical references from the Tukano, Tariano and Guarani peoples merge with the universe of contemporary music and jazz. The KA’AYARI duo, a word of Guarani origin meaning “guardian of the yerba mate”, is inspired by the ceremony of infusion between the herb and the water to compose together with its two elements: maestro João José de Félix Pereira, Awaju Poty, composer and pianist, and Ricardo Sá, composer and saxophonist, a concert that features authorial songs in Guarani and Portuguese. The host of these poetry evenings is Rogério Cão, who will always bring a guest with him. Admission is free and the sessions start at 21:00 and end at 22:30 and will take place every second Thursday of the month. Free public participation. ———————————————- Rogério Cão was born in V. N. de Famalicão in Minho and settled in the Algarve, in Faro, in 2006, having started by reciting poetry in the city’s bars. His history of association with the spoken and written word and also his relationship with music goes back a long way, since 1996, when he joined the Progressive Rock project “Alma Negra” as lyricist and vocalist and later, in 2004, the pseudourbanosneurodepressive project. Rogério has voice and theater training and has participated as an actor in several theater shows with emphasis on the short film “Fragmentação” by Nuno Fernandes. He himself has developed projects that combine music, theater and poetry, such as “Teatro ao Sul”, a show in which two actors travel through a Portuguese poetic anthology and present original texts and more recently with the poetic quartet “Diz@sossego” and the poetic creation project “A Gaveta da Pedra”.

First Exploratory Music Cycle – SEPTEMBER 22 – ARCM The Nucleus of Experimentation in Music of the Recreational and Cultural Association of Musicians (N.E.M da ARCM), in partnership with the Zer0 Museum, will present the First Cycle of Exploratory Music in the Algarve. This cycle of three concerts will have its first performance on May 13th at Club Farense. The improvised music by Niseichi, Trinchax and Vasco Fortes will be conducted by a visual performance that has a slide projector as its central device, operated by the visual artist José Jesus, creating a unique synesthetic experience. Each presentation will be adapted to the space in which it will take place, promoting the interaction between music and the environment. The objective of this collaboration is to reach new audiences, expanding the cultural offer of the city and region. With the support of the Municipal Museum of Faro, Club Farense and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, the exploratory music cycle promises to be an innovative and engaging experience for music lovers.

First Exploratory Music Cycle – SEPTEMBER 22 – ARCM The Nucleus of Experimentation in Music of the Recreational and Cultural Association of Musicians (N.E.M da ARCM), in partnership with the Zer0 Museum, will present the First Cycle of Exploratory Music in the Algarve. This cycle of three concerts will have its first performance on May 13th at Club Farense. The improvised music by Niseichi, Trinchax and Vasco Fortes will be conducted by a visual performance that has a slide projector as its central device, operated by the visual artist José Jesus, creating a unique synesthetic experience. Each presentation will be adapted to the space in which it will take place, promoting the interaction between music and the environment. The objective of this collaboration is to reach new audiences, expanding the cultural offer of the city and region. With the support of the Municipal Museum of Faro, Club Farense and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, the exploratory music cycle promises to be an innovative and engaging experience for music lovers.

Ideias do Levante – Associação Cultural de Lagoa (Algarve), in partnership with the Municipality of Lagoa (Algarve), will organize, on October 20, 2023, at 9:00 pm, in the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium (Lagoa), the tenth edition of the show of the art of Oriental Dance, entitled “The Magic of 1001 nights”. The show will bring together the class of Graciete Jesuíno (teacher and choreographer of Oriental Dance at Ideias do Levante) and some special guests. #show According to the organization, this show, designed by Gabriela Sharifa, has a large amateur component, as the dancers on stage will mostly be amateurs and newbies in this art. Produced between 2018 and 2022, these short films allowed members of the cultural association and invited professionals to work with secondary school students in the municipalities of Loulé, Faro and Figueira da Foz. Expansion of the Cheese Dairy at the Multipurpose Center of Azinhal
This week, the Municipality of Castro Marim begins work on expanding the Cheese Dairy at the Centro Multiusos do Azinhal, an intervention worth around 90,000.00 euros that focuses on the creation of an Experimental Nucleus, a pedagogical room attached to the existing structure. To implement this experimental unit, the useful area of the cheese factory will be increased by around 40m2. Articulated with the values of the interior and the territory, this Experimental Nucleus will function as a “centre of living science”, reinforcing the work already done to value Algarve cheese and goat, a characteristic breed of the Algarve and with great expression in the territory of Castro Marim . Loulé Chocolate Fair marks 10th edition
The Cerca do Convento Espírito Santo, next to the Loulé City Hall building, will host this year the 10th edition of the Loulé Market Chocolate Fair which, between 8 and 16 February, will sweeten the mouths of our residents and visitors. Due to the execution of the works for the creation of a “Food Court” that take place inside the Municipal Market of Loulé, the organization chose an outdoor space, in the heart of the city, in a wider area, to hold this event that, over the years, has gained numerous followers. GRATO – Support Group for Drug Addicts, based in Portimão, since 1995, made on April 26, 25 years, and in a press release his direction thanks the sponsorships it has received because only in this way has it been possible to help, not only users, as well as a fringe of the increasingly vulnerable population. When GRATO started its activity it was mainly with the intention of refer drug addicts to treatment centers that recommended the Program Minesota or the “12 Steps” as it is best known. Having checked that a part was also homeless, in 2001 began the task of distributing in a systematized form, at the time for about 10 to 15 people per day, cooked meals, and in 2003 began to receive food from the school park of the municipality. As part of the “Música nas Igrejas” programme, on January 28th, at 6 pm, in the Hermitage of São Sebastião, the pianist and composer Luís Conceição will perform a recital. In this concert, works by classical, romantic and contemporary composers will be interpreted. Luís Conceição graduated in Musical Sciences, at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and in Piano, at the University of Évora. He holds a master’s degree in Music Teaching from ISEIT (Piaget). He has worked as an accompanying pianist, professor of piano and history of culture and arts in several national conservatories. He is currently professor of piano and history of culture and arts, at the Academia de Música de Tavira. As a pianist and composer, he performed in numerous national and international venues, solo and in chamber formations, choirs and orchestras. The professional activity of composition began in 1993, having to date more than 400 musical works. He leads several musical projects, where he emphasizes the interdisciplinarity of the arts, namely, a symbiotic relationship between music, poetry and cinema. Municipality of Lagoa extends state of alert until end of April
In the municipality of Lagoa all municipal equipment will be closed and all cultural and sport events will be cancelled, including the celebrations of April 25th. ESTOJO is an artistic mediation project promoted by LAMA Teatro, whose primary objective is to involve and empower young people, using performing arts as a means. O 7º Festival Internacional de Guitarra de Lagoa prossegue no próximo dia 19 de Setembro, no Centro de Congressos do Arade com as atuações de “5EX Band” e “Galandun Galundaina”. Este espetáculo estava programado para o Parque Municipal do Sitio das Fontes, no entanto, face ao agravamento das condições meteorológicas e considerando os alertas da Proteção Civil, o local do espetáculo foi alterado para o Centro de Congressos do Arade. “Hands on Art” is a response of the Municipality for people with specific educational needs, using methodologies of education by art.The project “Hands on Art” is aimed at children with specific pedagogical needs, who attend the preschool education establishments and 1st. Basic Education Cycle of public schools in the municipality of Lagoa. For 5 days, between the 18th and 22nd of October, the village of Aljezur hosted the second phase of the largest nature tourism event in the Algarve, attracting the interest and presence of more than two hundred visitors, including children, adults interested in the themes , professionals and entrepreneurs of nature tourism and public entities. Six companies exhibited their sustainable solutions for nature tourism businesses, from surfing to the rehabilitation of rivers and streams or the presentation of services to promote low-density territories. In the Workshops promoted by public and private entities and aimed at professionals in the sector, the “Sustainability Workshop: Algarve 2030 Program funding opportunities” was the one that attracted the most participants. Faro has shared scooters again
From Tuesday, 4 February, Faro will have 200 shared scooters through an electronic mobility platform that already provided shared cars and that now launches this more sustainable service, said the company responsible in Portugal. David Ferreira da Silva, responsible for the Bolt platform, told Lusa that, after the motor vehicles, the company will also provide scooters in Faro, the first Portuguese city where it will provide the service. The Salt, the sun and the south and a different late afternoon in Salina Félix
To the south and in the sun in a late afternoon, the participants of the first action of the initiative “End of Afternoon in Salt” were able to collect their own salt, in an experience that aims to value the profession of salt and salt flower. In Salina Félix, in the middle of the Sapal de Castro Marim and VRSA Nature Reserve, the new salineiros learned about the whole process of artisanal saliniculture, collecting the salt manually, with the ancestral techniques that the fresh salineiros taught them. Home they took an enriching experience, 1 bag of the “best salt in the world” and also 2 packs of salt flower, which they themselves collected from the herseherand. The traditional sea salt of Castro Marim results from the conjugation of the salineiro’s work with the action of tides, sun and winds, and is not subject to any kind of subsequent treatment, presenting naturally white and bright. The salt flower was also observed, although atmospheric conditions did not allow collection. Also the salt flower does not undergo any kind of processing, dries in the sun and is then packed, maintaining the taste and humidity of the sea. This initiative is part of a strategy of valorization and promotion of salineiro and, consequently, of salt, which is one of the ex-libris of Castro Marim. Providing this contact of proximity and familiarization, it hopes to increase and boost the commercialization of local products in the tourist chain. About 2 months ago Castro Marim was also able to see legally protected the name “Sal e Flor de Sal de Castro Marim” (PDO – Protected Designation of Origin). The “End of Afternoon in Salt” is an action organized by the Municipality of Castro Marim and Odiana Association, integrated in the Blue Flag 2020 program and framed in the application “Heritage of Castro Marim: Valorization and Promotion of Local Producers and Endogenous Products”, composed by PO CRESC 2020, PADRE project, supported by Portugal and the European Union, co–financed at 70% by the FEDER.
The orange capital festival
Silves will be focusing on the orange during the upcoming festival celebrating the city as the capital of oranges. The IV Mostra Silves Capital da Laranja will take place in 2020, on 14, 15 and 16 February, with performances by Rita Guerra (14), Ana Moura (15) and De Moda Em Moda (16). The event will have its official opening at 10am. Present will be several dozens of exhibitors related to citrus, wines, agriculture, regional products, sweets, crafts and gastronomy, as well as some associations and local and regional entities. Also taking place during this most recent edition of this show that promotes the Silves Capital da Laranja brand, will be another cycle of conferences, in which national and international specialists will debate central themes for citrus production and producers. Cocktails will also return, with the “Orange Cocktail Festival 2020”. Castro Marim with free Wi-Fi in the main public spaces of the county
As part of its modernization and technological innovation strategy, the Municipality of Castro Marim has provided, since the end of 2022, a free network of Wi-Fi access points in the main centers of public life – Castro Marim ON. The initiative results from the establishment of the convention “WiFi4EU Promotion of Internet connectivity in local communities”, between the Municipality of Castro Marim and the Executive Agency for Innovation and Networks (INEA). The municipality bears the connection costs (subscription for Internet access) and equipment maintenance and offers free high-quality wireless connectivity for a minimum period of three years. With this initiative, the European Commission intends to promote free wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi) in public spaces throughout Europe, namely in parks, squares, public buildings, libraries, health centers and museums. Hotspots were installed in Altura (Praceta Prof. Luís Amaro, Rotunda 24 Junho and Mercado Municipal), Azinhal (Largo), Odeleite (Casa de Odeleite) and Castro Marim (Praça 1º de Maio, Revelim de St. António, West Zone, City Hall, City Library, Local Market, Casa do Sal). On the last Sunday of the month, the 26th, there will be a workshop dedicated essentially to independent musicians under the title “Spotify – How to increase streams”. A partnership between the band “Plasticine”, the newly created publishing house “Moreia Eléctrica” and the bar “Lionheart” will promote the event that will allow musicians and other interested parties to attend for free, thus having contact with some of the most common marketing practices within of this theme. Cleaning and disinfection campaign has begun in the Municipality of Lagoa
This Monday, March 23, a special campaign to clean and disinfect the public spaces of the municipality of Lagoa began, which will last at least until the next month. The Municipality of Lagoa has just purchased a biocidal product duly certified for disinfection of the public space which has already begun to be applied. It is a broad spectrum, ecological and guaranteed efficiency disinfectant, which follows the recommendations of the General Directorate of Health for the prevention of contagion and dissemination of COVID-19. This special cleaning and disinfection campaign for the municipality’s public space is mainly aimed at landfill sites, and their user contact areas, such as handles and covers, in order to minimise the risk of potential sources of contamination. But in addition to these priorities, other public facilities and spaces, such as the streets and some urban furniture, will also be cleaned and disinfected. Five proposals submitted to OP Lagoa 2020 meet conditions to be approved. The results of the technical analysis of the proposals submitted to the 2020 edition of the Participatory Budget (OP) of Lagoa are in consultation.The “Public consultation of the results of the technical analysis” of the proposals submitted to op Lagoa, corresponds to the penultimate phase of the process initiated in May. The final presentation of the results, scheduled for October 2020, is the last step before the execution of the works elected in the 7th edition of OP Lagoa.After completing the technical analysis of the proposals, the Municipality of Lagoa makes public, at this stage, the lists of approved and unapproved projects. The grounds for approval or exclusion were previously discussed with the respective tenderers.There are five proposals that meet the requirements defined by the regulation of OP Lagoa 2020. Terras de Verdelago enterprise invests in the afforestation of native species.
On November 23rd, the Native Species Forest Day is celebrated and the date was marked in Castro Marim with an environmental education action in Verdelago’s entreprise, the first of many that will follow, seeking to respond to the challenge “one tree for each tourist bed”. This initiative also symbolized the beginning of the work of this project, which approved, but without progress, for 20 years. In an initiative organized by the promoters of Verdelago, in partnership with the Castro Marim School Group and the Castro Marim City Hall and articulated with the ICNF, about 130 students from the Altura School Center will plant pine trees, coark oak and holm oaks, with the aim of thickening the existing clearings. Each tree planted was baptized with the name of the student who cultivated it, seeking to promote and stimulate environmental values in the younger ones. Afforestation is the main objective of this initiative, but this time, with native trees, trees originating in the territory itself, since the plucked are invasive species, such as eucalyptus and acacia trees. Lagoa promotes actions for inclusion in the school context
Training, awareness raising, launching and offering books, integrated the program of the Municipality of Lagoa to promote equality. “Peer relations” was the central theme of the awareness-raising action with which the Municipality of Lagoa marked the World Day for Combating bullying celebrated on October 20th, 2020. The same program included, on the 22nd, the presentation of the children’s book ” Maria-Rapaz, Manel-Rapariga, Preto no Branco, Girafa ou Formiga – a trip on inclusion, equality and prevention of violence”. It was followed by a training action for the educators of childhood and teachers of the first cycle, with the suggestion of strategies for addressing the themes of the book. On October 26, the day of the school libraries, the distribution of this new book began by the libraries of the School Groups and by the approximately 500 children who attend the 1st and 2nd years of the 1st cycle of public education in the municipality of Lagoa. After a year full of work and many successes, Grafonola Voadora & Napoleão Mira are not intimidated by COVID-19 and release in full pandemic and voluntary social isolation their new album entitled “Lugar Nenhum” (Nowhere) thus showing that it is possible to develop cultural activities and at the same time promote a slow spread of the disease without further damaging the national economy. OPEN-CALL of writing launched by Mákina de Cena in 2021 results in the edition of the book />> SLASH FORWARD Letters to Tomorrow’s [Me]
The long-awaited launch will take place next Saturday, December 10th, at 3 pm at Casa do Meio-Dia / Sul, Sol e Sal, in Loulé, and will be attended by the members of the jury, Dr. Adriana Freire Nogueira (Regional Director of Culture of the Algarve), Lídia Jorge and Patrícia Amaral (Mákina de Cena). In 2020, the Planet was hit by the pandemic caused by the New Coronavirus – SarsCov2. During the first confinement, Time, the one we always complain about, entered our houses inside and stayed there, imposing and static. Thus, Mákina de Cena launched, still in 2020, an Open-Call of Photography, [ISO]lados, which, in the rest times that the pandemic provided, became an exhibition in the Municipal Galleries of Loulé and at the IPDJ in Faro. In 2021, upon returning to confinement, we launched another Call, this time literary: />> SLASH FORWARD, which challenged participants to dialogue with their ‘future self’. This edition is the result of that challenge, which had a total of 36 participations from all over the country, with 23 of these texts being selected for printing. Documentary Arts Workshop in Castro Marim
As part of the artistic curatorship of Companhia Teatro do Vestido, partner of the Particular Universal project, Castro Marim will host, from February 13th to 17th, the Documentary Arts Workshop “Rescue Memories, Inscribe Memories”. Teatro do Vestido has been observing, listening and studying in the municipality of Castro Marim since March 2022. Seeking to map the territory, the people and their stories, the Company wishes to contribute to a community archive of “small and forgotten” memories, accompanying the efforts of local associations in this regard. The “Rescue Memories, Inscribe Memories” training is part of this project to contribute to artistic self-reflection on the territory. Over five days, at the Municipal Library of Castro Marim and after work hours, the Teatro do Vestido team, accompanied by historian Alice Samara, will monitor the works and support the development of artistic objects, inspired by ethnographic observation, collection of life stories, objects, documents or memories. The training shares with the participants various methodologies and tools used by Teatro do Vestido in its artistic creation practice over the last 20 years, namely in the field of documentary theatre, accompanied by a theoretical and practical incursion into the methodologies of oral history. The Algarvian Band Plasticine That Opened the MED Festival 2022 in Loulé Launches New Album
The album is called “The Most Beautiful Skies” and it’s about individual and global battles, about small pieces of happiness that make it worth fighting for them daily so that the skies seem to us the most beautiful we’ve ever seen. Plasticine is a World Music band from the Algarve that opened this year the edition of the MED Festival in Loulé.
